Maybe I should count my breaths for a while until my mind gets settled.... Inbreath one... outbreath ... inbreath two ... outbreath ... If I get up to twenty I’ll start over.... Inbreath three ... whoa, did I miss one breath? I can’t remember.... Okay, I’ll start over with inbreath one again ... darn.... Darn? ... Did I just judge myself for losing count? ... I shouldn’t be judging myself so much.... Okay, outbreath.... But wait, I just judged myself for judging myself! What a mess these synapses are! ... Luckily it’s not my essential self, whatever the hell that is.... Okay, now back to the breath.... Concentrate! Why is this so hard? Everybody else seems to be doing okay.... Whoops, I’m supposed to keep my eyes closed.... “Living is easy with eyes closed.” The Beatles weren’t doing this damn meditation technique when they wrote that song.... And why am I always humming something? My mind has been destroyed by rock and roll.... Damn, another self-judgment!... Okay, back to the task ... inbreath one ... outbreath ... inbreath two….
