Lane knew he should defend Gresh, but anything he said would come across wrong.

If things were different, Gresh would have kissed him goodbye. Hell, he wanted that kiss, but Gresh was already on the helicopter, flying back to Houston.

Gresh watched the ranch house disappear from view as the helicopter carried him back to downtown Houston. Hamilton hadn’t given him any room to say no. They were entertaining a dude from England and Hamilton insisted that Gresh be there to schmooze.

This little trip couldn’t have come at a worse time. The construction was supposed to start in earnest today unless something happened. Lane could handle anything that came up, but he wanted to be there when the construction foreman arrived.

It sucked that Hamilton had called him home. Before he’d had enough time to really work up any steam, downtown Houston filled the horizon. The pilot landed on the top of his daddy’s building. Gresh thanked him and headed inside. He took the elevator to the ground floor and went across the street to change clothes. Hamilton might have him at his beck and call, but he’d show up dressed in a suit and tie.

Thirty minutes later, Gresh strolled into Hamilton’s office dressed in a black Armani suit and a crisp white shirt. He looked good and knew Hamilton would be pleased, even if he were a bit snarky.

“Gresham, I’d like to introduce you to Nicolai.”

Gresh shook Nicolai’s hand, saying all the right things to make Hamilton happy. The woman and young boy behind Nicolai moved to the side, revealing a young woman a bit younger than Gresh. Heat raced up Gresh’s neck to his face. Oh crap, his father wouldn’t…

“This is Anna-Maria. You actually played together when you were both younger,”

Hamilton said. Gresh thought Hamilton’s face would crack from his huge smile. Oh, this was bad, very bad.

They were setting him up with a girl.
