The lady tugged surreptitiously on the low bodice of her shimmering cocktail dress, the metallic sheen reflecting a rainbow of color whenever she moved. Of medium height, she was shapely, strikingly attractive in the skimpy, short dress that framed her tanned and long legs, loaning her the aura of a fashion model.

Long and alluring legs, the bartender thought as he saw her standing hesitantly at the door.

Will she come in or won’t she? He’d seen about everything come through that door, but this one interested him. He had spotted her earlier, paused at the opening of the lounge door and being hit upon by the blond salesman. He chuckled. The salesman had flamed out.

Crashed and burned. That one got away. No company for him tonight.

The young lady straightened her shoulders and walked into the room on her three-inch heels, got her bearings, and then strolled toward the bar. Speaking in a low, well-modulated voice, she ordered a drink and settled into a corner of the room behind a small table.

Perhaps she needed a bit of protection. Since he was a tall fellow with arms the size of small tree trunks, he could handle the usual prowling wolves who sniffed around the single women. This female puzzled him. Not once had she glanced at her watch, although he could have sworn she was waiting for someone.
