CHAPTER 11

Even with the fire, the warmth of the water seeped out way too quickly considering Rogue wasn’t back and Kip, try as he might, couldn’t force his arm muscles to push him up into a standing position. When the water went from cool to cold, Kip was mentally cursing Rogue.

Fuck mentally, he was just cursing the man. With each word, he said it louder and louder letting the sound bounce around the tiled room. He wasn’t entirely sure what Rogue considered quick, but it had been an hour and a half.

Between freezing in the ever cooling water and his skin turning into a prune, Kip wasn’t happy. He’d actually thought Rogue had been nice to him. He should have known the man was just going to leave him where he was, helpless to get out of the tub.

Eyeing the drain, Kip did his best to slide down the length of the tub until his feet could touch the drain stopper. It was one that all he had to do was push on one side to release it. Several muscles twinged at the action, but he’d breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the drain open up and the water start to go down.

The fire was still going next to him. Hopefully, with the cool water no longer surrounding him, the flames would warm him up since there was no way he could reach the towel rack that was on the other side of the room near the shower. If Kip lived there, he’d put a second one near the tub.

What was he saying? He wasn’t ever going to live there. Never.

The door slammed opened a second before it slammed shut. Kip hadn’t had a chance to explore the rest of the house and he’d been too out of it the night before to notice how it was laid out, but he was glad the icy temperature that probably rushed in with the open door didn’t reach him.

“I’m so sorry. I swear it wasn’t my fault. I tried to get here as fast as possible but first Sammy stopped me and then Reese showed up and even though I explained, neither of them looked like they believed me.” While Rogue rushed through the explanation, he put the huge pile of clothes he had with him on the counter near the sink. Then he picked up one of the towels off the rack and came over to Kip.

Gently, he leaned down and wiped Kip dry, which Kip could have done himself, although, he was in enough pain to admit he might not have been able to reach his legs. Not that it mattered, for Kip’s world started to shrink the more Rogue talked.

“I mean, what dog can give a look that clearly says he doesn’t believe a word you’re saying? It was insane, but regardless, I rushed off to the house, but you were wrong about everyone being at work.” Rogue lifted Kip from the tub and placed him onto
