When I entered the third bank, things just seemed eerie and surreal, as if things were moving in slow motion. I scanned the bank and noticed that this bank was the most crowded of the three that I had entered.

I made my way to the counter in order to fake like I was filling out a withdrawal slip and that’s when I noticed that there was a security guard standing near one of the teller locations.

Audrey, get your ass up out of this bank right now! They know what’s up. I kept saying to myself. I didn’t hesitate and I quickly made my way back to the car.

“That was quick,” Promise noted.

“They had a security guard standing right near one of the tellers! Things just don’t seem right, Promise.”

“Don’t sweat that, baby. All banks usually have a security guard or something. But I guarantee you that he wasn’t holding no heat! He ain’t nothing but a toy-cop, an unarmed security guard.”

“I don’t know, Promise.”

“Come on, baby, get it over with. Matter of fact, I’ll tell you what. Give me the note and I’ll just add on the note that the teller better not alarm the security guard.”

I shook my head and thought about things for a couple of minutes. Then upon reflection, I decided to go along with everything. I exited the car and made my way back inside. My heart was beating so fast that I thought it was gonna jump out of my shirt. By the time that I had made it back inside the security guard had re-positioned himself and he was now standing near the doors.

I blocked everything out as I stood on the long commercial line. While waiting, I thought about how good it would feel to go home and sleep in my own bed, to just relax and end all the drama I was putting myself through. I thought about these things so that I wouldn’t psych myself out of going through with the robbery.

Audrey, when this is over, we’re checking out of that hotel. You are renting an apartment for Promise and then you are taking your ass back to New York! No more of this gangster’s girl nonsense! I told myself. If anything, I’ll just make a pact with Promise that if something ever happens to him, I will do whatever it is that I have to do to get custody of his daughter. I’ll be there for him in that way but I can’t ride with him any longer in the manner in which I’m riding with him.

Finally, after about fifteen minutes of waiting, I reached the teller. The teller was a middle aged white lady and the moment that she saw me, I could sense that she probably had been alerted to lookout for someone who fit my description. I say that because both of her eyes immediately shifted to the right side of her head and she began acting fidgety and nervous. Most likely, she was probably thinking back to a description she had given her of me, the New York bred Hampton Roads bank robber.
