Techniques:
These Techniques are all derived from several Traditional and Eclectic Arts, but are Modified in Form or Application for a more effective use in modern day street scenarios. These are just basic techniques, this is just a surface level look at what you need to protect yourself.
It is IMPORTANT not to practice any of these techniques without the supervision of a trained Self Defense/Martial Arts Instructor. It is also important not to apply any of these techniques on anyone in training without a qualified instructor present and the use of proper safety equipment.
The Techniques that we will cover are designed for the three ranges of striking, the Long range, Medium Range, and Short range.
x First Strike techniques
x Counter Fighting techniques
x Close Quarter Combat techniques.
There are also Throwing, Joint locking, Chokes, Strangles, and weapons techniques that will not be covered in this book. Again this is why you need a qualified Self Dense/Martial Arts instructor to complete your training.
Here are some definitions to remember: Lead hand – This means when one foot is in front of the other the lead hand is the same side as your forward foot.
Rear Hand – This is the hand that is kept back whenever you are in a stance that has one foot in front of the other.
Destruction – This is a way of using your hardest bones and certain strikes to cause debilitating effects or breaks of the striking hand or foot that is coming towards you.
Parry – This is a soft form of blocking that redirects the force of a punch past its target rather than using force to push it away.
Block – This is a form of stopping a strike from reaching its target by force or using your strength against the force of the incoming strike to redirect it.
Long Range:
We will begin with First Strike Techniques. These are designed to stop the Forward momentum of your threat. And to give you the time to make an escape or follow up with more decisive blows to neutralize your threat. This is the safest distance to be in, initially because you can strike him effectively before he can reach you with an effective strike of his own.
Medium Range:
Counter Fighting range. This is the distance where he can grab your arms and wrists or hit you with a punch and vice versa. This is the range where you are more vulnerable against a stronger opponent and also more likely to get hit. But, it is also the range where you can cause the most damage to your threat.
Close Range:
This is called the Close Quarter Combat range. This is where you apply your close quarter techniques like the Elbows, Knees, Throws, Head butts, Eye Gouges, and some standing Grappling. This is also where you can apply biting to free yourself of grabs or open your threat up to new targets. This is the most dangerous position to be in against a stronger, larger opponent unless you have entered purposefully and are ready to finish him off.
