âThis is a mistake,â I told Sloane as she parked her car.
âWhy?â She cut the engine.
âBecauseâ¦I donât know. But itâs weird.â
âWhy is it weird? Itâs Friday night, weâre not working, and weâre going out.â She dug around in her purse. âThis is what we do, remember? Weâre young and hot and these are supposedly the best years of our lives. Might as well make the most of them.â She pulled a tube of lipstick out of her bag and flipped down the visor to use the mirror.
âItâs weird because weâre here. At the club my stepbrother works at,â I said dryly.
âWe donât know he works here. He said he works at a club. There are a lot of clubs in town.â She expertly applied her lipstick.
âExcept he works at a strip club, and this is the only strip club with male dancers in the area.â
âWhat a crazy coincidence.â She grinned and flipped up the visor. âCome on. You canât tell me youâre not curious.â
âOh, Iâm damn curious. But I know Graham. Heâll lose his shit if he finds out Iâm creeping on him at work.â
âYouâre not creeping, youâre supporting the opening of a local business. If anything, weâre being good community citizens.â
âYouâre the worst enabler in the world. Is there anything you canât justify?â
âItâs my superpower.â She patted my knee. âWeâll have a few drinks and sit in the back corner away from the stage so he doesnât see us.â
âYouâre not going to let this go, are you?â
âNope. We had a shitty week and we deserve a break. And I know youâre all weirded out because your enemy with benefits works here, but so what? Youâve seen way more of him than heâs going to show, and we get to watch hot guys take their clothes off. Thereâs no downside here.â
âNot until I have to deal with him losing his shit because he saw me here.â
âSo? Itâll give you another reason to shut him up with the D. You know he only does that because he wants you to fuck him stupid.â
âFine,â I said, resigned. âBut we bounce if thereâs even the possibility of drama. I donât want to fuck with his job.â
âUnderstood.â She fluffed up her hair. âHow do I look?â
âGorgeous, as always.â
She pushed her door open. âCome on. Itâll be fine.â
We paid our cover at the door and stepped into the club. What I saw was not what Iâd expected at all.
Even with the lights low and the steady beat of music pulsing through it, the club had a whimsical and classy feel. Tables in various sizes and shapes encircled a huge stage. Some had poles attached to them, and a few large booths lined the side walls. In the far corner was an area with what looked like confessionals, only instead of doors, they had floor-to-ceiling curtains. The bar took up most of the back wall, and shirtless bartenders hurried about filling drink orders.
âThere.â Sloane pointed to an open table near the confessional area. It was far enough from the stage that Graham shouldnât be able to see us.
