Move on to the lips. We will give them a little more attention than the nose. First you need to shade the center line where the lips close. Draw it as black as possible, using the softest pencil.

Next, with the help of light hatching, outline the upper and lower lips.

Now draw a more detailed tone in the darkest places of the lips.

Stage 3: General Tone

The second stage of work on the portrait is completed. We previously drew the main parts of the face, and now we need to apply a general tone. What is meant by the general tone? The face in a pencil portrait, in the brightest areas, with the exception of highlights, has a color. Even in the brightest places, it’s darker than paper. At this stage, we will make this very light complexion.

We will do this by hatching with the lightest pencil that you have. From 9B to 4B is the most optimal choice. You need to apply strokes quite tightly, with almost no pressure on the pencil. Such hatching is done not arbitrarily but in specific directions. I will indicate the directions in the photo in the corner.
