ALCHEMISTâS POUCH
As soon as Trevor turned around to study his dark surroundings, he heard a click from the main doors. He checked it quickly and found that it was locked. Ramming his shoulder against them or kicking them yielded no results other to add to his frustration. He had fought so hard to enter the hospital, only to be locked inside of it.
Turning the torch and radio back on and placing the crowbar on his bag, he decided to contact Jay.
âAlright, Jay,â Trevor said into the radio, âIâm here at the hospital. Where are you?.â
No one replied. There was no static from the presence of demonic creatures or any response from Jay. He tried again, speaking clearly into it and making sure he was holding the button down properly. There was still no response.
âI hope youâre just taking a nap,â Trevor said as he placed the radio back on his hip, leaving the volume high.
To his left he spotted a reception desk with a door behind it. The only way to the door was over the reception counter itself. A passage broke away to the right of the reception and the room behind it, but Trevor busied himself with the glowing object on the counter first.
The Halo burned brightly, etched into the wood of the counter. Jayâs name in mirrored Hungarian hieroglyphs still glowed, along with Philip and Trevorâs. He placed his right palm on it, welcoming the warmth that reset his body to its full health.
Once the blinding light was gone, he moved towards the passage to the right when a noise in the reception area made him stop. It sounded like scratching and, as he waited, the frequency of the sound increased until it finally died away.
âI need something for these bites,â a male voice said, echoing down the passage. âI canât take this itching anymore.â
Trevor stood dead still. The voice had not appeared to come from anywhere specifically near him. Rather, it had been rather omnipresent in that it felt like the room itself had spoken. Treading carefully though, he walked around the corner edge of the counter and peered down the passage, shining the torch down its length.
Realising the passage was empty, he proceeded into it. He passed a door to his left mid-way through. As far as Trevor could tell, it led to the same area that the door behind the reception did. The sign on the door marked it as the Examination Room. He tried the door, only to find that it was locked. Jogging further down, he found another door at the end that was also locked.
âDammit man,â Trevor cursed. âWhere do I go now?â
He trailed back to the reception with an idea in mind. As soon as he stepped into the waiting room again, he heard the same scratching sound he had before. Once again, the frequency of the scratching increased until it faded away.
âOoooh, ahhh,â the voice said. âThis is too much. Itâs going to kill me.â
Ignoring it, he removed his duffel bag and placed it over the countertop onto the desk behind it.
