Chapter 13
Liz had been surprised when Beth had invited her home after the trivia night, and now she sat in Bethâs bed, scrolling through emails while Beth slept beside her. Beth stirred, rolling over to fumble in the direction of her phone. She groaned a little as she stared at the screen, then rolled onto her back.
âGood morning.â
âUm, hi.â
âYou donât remember inviting me here last night, do you?â
âYeah, I do. Give me a sec.â Bethâs voice was a lower tone than usual, slightly husky. She rubbed her eyes, then sat up in bed. The blanket fell down around her waist, and her thin shirt didnât really hide her breasts.
âAre you cold?â Liz asked, attempting to disguise her interest with politeness. She was unable to look away from the tight buds of Bethâs nipples showing through her sleeping shirt. She really needed to do something about this growing attraction she had to Beth; like kiss her again, because feeling like this was rare and special and it was worth dwelling on.
âNo. Iâm fine. Do you want to eat here, or go out?â
âHere is fine. I donât have a change of clothes, just what I wore last night.â If they were going to be seen in public, Liz needed a shower and fresh clothes as well her own toothbrush.
âOkay.â Beth swung out of the bed and stood on one leg. She bent over and put on her prosthetic with skilled hands. Obviously. Liz wanted to roll her eyes at herself. Of course Beth put on her prosthetic easily, she must do it every day, just as Liz knew how to tie her own shoelaces. Watching Beth move with elegance and competence overruled her own internal awkward monologue.
âIâd let you borrow my clothes, but your hips are broader than mine, so none of my pants are likely to fit you.â
Beth knew her size? What did that mean? Liz swallowed. It just meant that Beth was observant, it didnât mean that Beth had measured her body or anything that might show that Beth was interested in Lizâs shape.
âItâs fine.â Liz pinched her lips together before she said something silly like, next time.
âI have a new toothbrush in the bathroom if you want to use that, though. I can guarantee itâs never been used by anyone before.â
âThank you.â Liz ran her tongue over her slightly furry teeth. Being able to brush them would be fantastic.
âIâll just grab it.â Beth left the room, leaving Liz alone in her bed. She got up and quickly threw on the clothes sheâd worn last night. The skirt and blouse were far too dressy for sitting around and having breakfast in Bethâs house, but theyâd have to do as she had nothing else. She wandered into the kitchen, where Beth stood there in her sleeping shirt and underwear, making porridge. The smell of oats filled the room with a wholesomeness that made Liz want to belong here. A toothbrush, still in its packaging, sat on the kitchen bench. Liz picked it up and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth.
