Serena

Luna’s pacing the floor of the emergency unit of the hospital in Farmington Hills; her mother has drunken herself into alcohol poisoning again. I stay quiet and try to be a supportive wife, even though I can sense her frustration.

"I don't have time for this right now," Luna mutters, continuing to pace. I hold out my hand for her and softly suggest, "Baby, come sit with me." She pauses before taking my hand and joining me in the chair beside me. She doesn't let go; her fury palpable.

"I should be home right now taking care of you," she says bitterly. "But no, my mom has to pull this shit again. When will it end?"

"No, Luna," I reply gently. "You don't have to take care of me. I'm fine." Her glare pierces my soul and I flinch.

"Do not defend my mother or downplay the stress you were under last night," she snaps. My heart sinks and I hang my head in shame, but she lifts my chin and looks me in the eyes apologetically.

"I'm sorry, baby. I didn't mean to snap at you." I shrug and lean in for a kiss, when suddenly we're interrupted by the doctor's approach in the waiting room.

"Just stay with me Serena," she pleads, gripping my hand tightly. "Don't leave me - please don't leave me."

"Never," I declare firmly, pulling her into a loving kiss before the doctor interrupts us once more.

“Mrs. Lawson, I’m Doctor Mills. Your mother is recovering well, but this is her fourth case of alcohol poisoning in the past year?” He inquires. Luna nods to him.

“I'm trying to get her admitted to rehab, but she won’t agree.” She says weakly.

“Since this is her fourth occurrence, we are obligated to take that as a self-harm attempt and admit her to the psychiatric ward for observation for a few weeks; however, we need your consent before we can make that happen. You are her emergency contact and legally her power of attorney. Will you agree to have her transferred?” Luna looks to me with a sigh of relief and I offer her a reassuring smile.

“Go ahead—it's okay. Get the paperwork signed.” She gives me a stern look before standing up.

“I need you sitting here when I return. Don't leave, not even for snacks from the vending machine.” I groan at her, but nod, giving her what she wants. Damn, she's incredibly possessive right now. Luna stands and removes her coat, placing it in the seat next to me, then follows the doctor to the front desk.

“Damn, she's gorgeous!” A woman exclaims loudly as she enters the waiting room, her eyes fixated on Luna. I groan inwardly. Everywhere we go, it's always this same thing. Luna has and will always attract attention wherever she goes, but oddly enough she doesn't seem to be aware of it. That works in my favor for now, but what will happen when she finds out? The woman almost walks smack into the wall with her eyes glued to Luna and even the nurses have their eyes all over her, it didn't matter if they were straight or gay.
