âHey,â I say as I make my way out from behind the counter.
âHey, I was wondering where you went off to.â
âYeah, I had to get to work,â I say.
Itâs only a half lie. When I woke up, I could feel the weight of our night together starting to hit me so I made a to-do list to take my mind off the fact that I had no idea how to react on the morning after a steamy night with someone.
âDid something happen?â He asks and itâs only then that I notice that it looks like he just rolled out of bed and he looks slightly panicked.
His hair is sticking up in the back and it makes him look younger. His shirt and shorts are wrinkled and I wonder if he just grabbed the first thing that he could and came straight here.
Maybe I shouldnât have snuck out. I didnât mean to worry him.
âWhat? No, like I said, I just had to get to work. I had a lot to get done today for the insurance stuff and with the security company,â I tell him.
He nods, studying me and he must see that Iâm telling the truth because he relaxes.
âAre you all caught up?â
âFor the most part.â
âWant to take a quick break and grab something to eat?â
âAnother date already?â I try to tease him.
âYeah, I want to see if I can get lucky again today.â
âI think the time for morning sex was this morning before I left,â I try to joke and his mouth drops open.
âWhat?â
âWhat?â I ask nervously, wondering if I just overstepped or made some dating faux pa.
âI meant see if I was lucky enough to get you to go out with me again, but I like your idea too.â
He gives me an affable grin and I can feel my cheeks heating. I try to look away since Iâm sure that theyâre turning a terrible shade of red.
âSo, what do you say?â Arlo asks, throwing me a life rope. âDinner tomorrow night?â
âSure, what did you have in mind?â
âWhat are you hungry for?â
âHonestly?â
He nods and I bite my lip. I wonder if I should say something fancy like steak and frites but thatâs not what Iâm in the mood for.
âPizza,â I admit, wincing slightly.
I really wish that I knew more about dating etiquette. I donât want to mess anything up with Arlo. I love being around him. I love how he makes me feel and I donât want to do anything to screw this up.
âThat actually sounds really good,â Arlo says with a relieved sigh and I relax.
âMancinoâs?â I suggest.
Itâs the best pizza place in town and is only a few doors down so I could grab it after work if I needed to.
âSure. I need to do stock at the bar tomorrow afternoon but I can pick you up and we can head back to my place after closing if you want.â
I remember his roommate from this morning and my stomach clenches at the thought of seeing him again.
âActually, maybe we could go to my place?â I offer.
