Christian tightened his grip around the bat, narrowing his eyes at the pitcher. The sun beat down from above, absolutely scorching. The air was thick with humidity, so dense he could feel it against his skin. The pitch came barreling down at him, a fastball high and inside, and he stepped away from the plate, fighting the urge to look up into the stands. Hannah had come to this afternoon’s game, the last one before the All-Star break, and knowing she was up there, in the stands, made him feel like he had a lucky charm tucked into his back pocket. He liked knowing she was here, watching. Liked knowing she was nearby. Or maybe he just felt good because of how enthusiastically she’d jerked him off before the game. She’d done it before the past three home games, and now he didn’t know how he’d survive on the road without her. She was addictive.

And it wasn’t just the fooling around, although he was enjoying the hell out of that. It was her. He liked talking to her, laughing with her, just being with her. It felt good. Natural. Easy. He liked who he was and how he felt whenever he was with her, and he knew it was because she saw the real him. And beyond that, she saw the man he was trying to be, and he didn’t have words to describe what that meant to him.

God, he could easily get in over his head with her, he realized. But…maybe he wanted to? The thought should’ve scared him, and yet, it didn’t. He couldn’t explain it. All he knew was that everything felt different with Hannah. Really different, in a good way.

Focusing, he settled into his stance again, and this time when the pitch came, it was a fastball right down the middle, and he swung. He made contact with a satisfying crack, the bat reverberating in his hands. The ball sailed out toward left field and he took off for first. When the ball dropped into the gap between the infielders and the outfielders, he turned on the gas and headed for second, sliding in and barely beating out the throw. The crowd erupted in cheers as he got to his feet, and this time, he couldn’t help himself. He looked up into the stands, into the friends and family section where he knew Hannah was and something pulsed through him when his eyes landed on her, standing and cheering for him, looking so fucking adorable in her Longhorns cap and jersey. Something that felt bigger than lust.

He couldn’t wait for the All-Star break, when he’d have her all to himself, no sneaking around. Just the two of them, alone together in that house. At the thought, one word came to mind: heaven.

The inning ended with Christian stranded on second base, and he jogged back to the dugout to ditch his batting gear and retrieve his glove, heading back out into the blazing sunshine with Jordan.

Jordan glanced up into the stands where Hannah was sitting.
