Chapter
Twenty-One
One of the men grabbed me, clutching my wrists tightly behind my back. He set his lips next to my ear, a chuckle erupting from deep inside.
âDo you like it rough, baby?â he asked.
âNo,â I spat, my stomach clenching.
âThen, perhaps, you just havenât had it done right to you,â he said. âLet me show you what youâre missing.â
I fought against him, twisting left and right, trying to wiggle myself free. âLet go of me, you fucking asshole!â
âRemy! No! Get out of here!â Charlie shouted, seemingly only first noticing it was me.
âThis is going to be so much fun,â the man holding me said. âYou ladies might not think you like it rough, but us men, we know how we like it. When Iâm done with you, youâll never want it any other way.â
âTheyâll see,â another man hooted as he thrust toward Charlie.
I couldnât get my arms free. The man holding me was a lot stronger, and he knew it. It seemed to be motivating him to hold me even tighter. He liked that I was fighting against him.
The surrounding shrubs rustled, but it wasnât from a strong wind. It was Darknessâs imps peeking out at us, and I could see there were a lot of them surrounding us.
I could feel Darkness was there. Maybe he was feeding off of Charlieâs fear.
Behind a tree, I saw his eyes glowing in the shadows. Charlie had her back to where he stood, but if the other men had been paying attention to anything other than Charlie and me, they would have seen him.
In a blink, an imp shot out from its nearby hiding spot and bit the leg of the man holding me. It wasnât enough to cause him to let go.
âWhat the fucking shit was that?â he asked, looking down at the empty space around his feet.
The imp scuttled into the shrub just as fast as it had jumped out. Another hopped out and did the same to another man, who reacted quicker and kicked the imp.
Darknessâs eyes beamed with a menacing glow. He was angry. And not like how he was angry in the closet with me⦠he was furious. Scary angry.
âWhatâs wrong with you two?â another man asked, his laugh sounding like a barking chihuahua. âHallucinating or something?â
âSomething bit me, dumbass,â the guy behind me bellowed so loudly into my ear it started to ring. âWe need to get somewhere a bit more secluded.â
âI know a place,â one of the men shouted. âOld warehouse at the end of the block. Back door is broken.â He nudged the guy standing next to him. âAsk me how I know.â
The guy holding Charlieâs shoulders groaned. âLetâs get out of here, babe.â
âIâm not going anywhere with you,â Charlie roared.
âPut up a fight. Please put up a fight,â he said, smirking as he looked into her glassy eyes.
Darkness held his hands up to the sky, and rain poured down as if heâd turned on a faucet. A fine mist grew from the concrete, swirling up around our legs, stopping at my waist.
