“How’s that for service?” Paul called as he killed the dinghy’s engine and let it drift toward the dock in front of Nora’s building after they’d finished touring the parade route.

“Not bad at all.” Quinn turned to give him a fist bump. “Thanks, man. Appreciate it.”

“The pleasure was ours. And I’m serious about that show. Get some pieces where you like them, and I’ll book out a week for you.”

Quinn nodded. “Okay.”

“Excellent.” Paul grinned and hiked his chin toward the dock. “Q, grab the bow line and tie us off to that cleat, and then we can see about getting this sleepy boy of yours home.”

Fort yawned loudly as if on cue, and Quinn smiled at Nora as she grabbed the line Paul had indicated and leapt out of the boat. Paul grabbed a cleat near the stern of the dinghy to pull the boat flush to the dock as she secured the bow.

Once everything was secure, Quinn dipped into a gallant bow and offered Nora her hand with a playful, “Milady.”

“Smooth, Q,” Paul teased.

Nora laughed when Quinn used her free hand to flip him off, and her eyes never left Quinn’s as she took her hand. She brushed a soft, “You’re adorable,” against Quinn’s cheek as she allowed herself to be helped from the boat.

Quinn gave Nora’s lightbulb necklace a little tug. “So are you.”

“Still can’t believe you talked me into wearing this,” Nora muttered.

“I don’t recall doing any talking. I just kissed you.”

“Mm, well…” Nora caressed Quinn’s stomach. “It was very persuasive.”

“C’mon, big guy,” Paul grunted.

Quinn winked at Nora and turned to help Paul get Fort out of the boat. She huffed a laugh when she saw that Fort had gone full exhausted-toddler-limp-noodle-mode, and held her arms out as she squatted at the edge of the dock. “Here. I’ll take him.”

“Better you than me,” Paul said as he handed Fort over. “He’s heavier than he looks.”

Quinn pulled Fort into her chest, and her heart melted a little when Fort snuggled right up to her and laid his chin on her shoulder. Guess we’re getting you upstairs this way, she thought, gritting her teeth as she pushed to stand. Once upright, she adjusted him in her arms to make the trek more comfortable. “Eh, he’s not that bad. I’ll be in touch, okay?”

“You better.” Paul waved. “Have a good night, guys!”

Since Quinn’s arms were full, Nora waved for the both of them as she said, “Thank you for a wonderful boat ride, Paul.” She turned to Quinn, and rolled her eyes at Fort. “Are you really okay? I’m sure we can make him walk upstairs.”

“He’s fine,” Quinn insisted. “Poor guy deserves a break. He had a long night singing for his adoring audience.”

Nora laughed. “I can’t believe he stood on top of the cabin and howled like that.”

Quinn bumped her lightly with her elbow as they started making their way toward the gate that led to the street. “It wasn’t howling. It was singing. And he apparently really loves Rudolph.
