Chapter 10 - Collecting Another

“Let me heal,” she muttered, prodding her hand. The cuts were two inches across and deep.

While she waited, she checked her statistics.

Attribute - Value

Strength - 11

Agility - 17

Perception - 12

Vitality - 12

Learning - 12

Mana - 8

Magic Skill - 4

Experience 249 out of 500 required for next level Skills.

Dodge - The ability to slow perceived time significantly and increase body movement by 2.5 times. Useable twice every 58.4 seconds.

There was also a combat log that she looked at curiously. For the Not-Jen, she was attributed nothing—that must have all gone to Cheryl. Then for the one who had chased her out the window and ended up killing itself, she had been credited one hundred experience, which must represent the full amount, and then finally, for the most recent joint effort, forty-five had been assigned. The other two hundred or so on her stat sheet must have been leftovers from the mana storm. The details around the forty-five explained that it was her share of the kill. The remaining fifty-five had to have been distributed between Cheryl and Gary.

Cheryl flittered from person to person, even including Chao and Zayn, as she laid on the charm. She was glowing with happiness at achieving her life ambition and seemed indifferent to flames burning out the window.

Sally snorted. She was the only one that Cheryl was ostracising. End of the world, and she was still playing her pointless power games. The other woman obviously saw her as a rival or had correctly determined that no amount of charm could make a difference in their relationship.

“Are you done yet?”

Sally looked at the hand wound. The scratches on her arms were fully healed. Her hands were tender, and the wounds were closed, but still an angry red. After a couple of cautious flexes, Sally confirmed they had mended sufficiently and that using them would not open the gashes up. She stood and tested the leg.

Same result.

The enhanced healing effect was tangible. Hell, or Alpha particle, she concluded in her head. Either was still a possibility. The whole Armageddon-on-Earth thing was a fantasy. She was sure that no god would have created something as twisted as what she had seen so far. Nature, on the other hand, came up with some funky stuff.

“Do you think the Alpha particle story is real?” Zayn asked.

She looked up, surprised that someone was talking to her. Then down again, he was instead looking at Cheryl.

The other woman hesitated. “Yes, but it still might be some sort of cruel alien joke. Even if it is aliens or god, our only choice is to play by the rules.”

Sally rolled her eyes internally. But the others seemed to eat it up.

“Get ready, Sally,” Cheryl ordered. “We still need to get out of here.”

Sally moved to the window instead of out of the door, like Cheryl wanted.

“What are you doing?”

Using Jen’s notepad, which Sally had grabbed, she started knocking the broken glass out of the frame. If she had to go in and out of the space, she did not want it to cut her any further.
