Chapter 8
Denis stood up; his expression resolute. âFirst, as Mia stated, we need to assess the situation here. We need to make sure you two are safe.â
His declaration sparked an immediate flurry of activity. Mia continued unpacking an array of devices, each beep, and whir of machinery adding to the already tense atmosphere of the flat. Dave carried out a methodical inspection of each room, his every movement precise, his eyes keenly observing the environment. Alex, had a camera slung around his neck, documenting every step. Mia began setting up more equipment, focusing on capturing any fluctuation in the ambient energy. Denis tried to communicate, using his psychic abilities, with anything which may have connected itself to one of us or followed us home.
Fiona watched with a mixture of fascination and anxiety. âI really hope nothing has actually followed me here.â She whispered.
Mia, who was scanning the room with an EMF meter, spoke without looking up. âEntities of this kind can sometimes form attachments. We need to ensure your safety before we tackle the asylum.â
Denis glanced over; his face illuminated by the glow of a monitor. âThese devices can detect things our eyes canât. They can detect things like hidden electromagnetic fields, temperature changes, and invisible movements. Spirits, especially strong spirits with a malevolent nature can disrupt the physical environment.â
âYes, we use a lot of this equipment in our ghost hunts,â Fiona replied.
Denis gave a slightly disapproving look. He wasnât against amateur ghost hunters. He merely wished they had a greater understanding of what they were dealing with.
I stood beside Fiona, my eyes following the teamâs movements. My flat, usually a haven of normality, now felt like a stage for a supernatural drama.
Dave approached with a handheld thermal camera. âWeâre looking for any cold spots,â she explained. âThey can show a paranormal presence.â The screen displayed the warmth of the room in a kaleidoscope of colours, but no irregular cold areas appeared.
Denis, meanwhile, took out a small bottle filled with a clear liquid. âHoly Water,â he said, sprinkling it in the corners of each room. âJust a precaution. Thankfully there has been no reaction.â
After a thorough sweep of the flat, Denis gathered the team in the living room. âThe readings are normal. No traces of any paranormal activity. It seems whatever you came across at the asylum has not followed you here.â
Fiona let out a breath she hadnât realised sheâd been holding. âThatâs a relief,â she murmured.
âWeâve reviewed the data from our equipment,â Denis continued with a serious tone to his voice. âThere are no significant EMF fluctuations. No unexplained temperature changes, and the infrared cameras havenât picked up any anomalies, nor did the SLS camera. Based on what weâve observed Steve, it seems your flat is clear.â
I let out a sigh of relief, the tension in my shoulders eased. âOut of curiosity, whatâs an SLS camera?â
Denis looked at Fiona. âFiona, would you like to tell him how it works?â
âSure. The SLS, or Structured Light Sensor camera, works like a high-tech version of connect-the-dots.
