Nine

Diego followed Pippa in his ranch truck with Benito buckled into his car seat beside him. His nephew talked excitedly all the way back to Pippa’s cottage.

By the time they got there, the kids were exhausted from their outing. Diego helped Pippa get the kids bathed and into bed and then hung back waiting for her to check her email.

“Nothing firm yet. But I did just get a brief email. The solicitor said he should have news no later than Friday,” she said.

It was Wednesday.

So that meant he had two more nights with her. His gut said he needed to take her as many times as he could. Imprint on her so that when she was back in the UK she wouldn’t be able to forget him or their time together.

He took her hand. “Can you hear the kids if we’re downstairs?”

“Yes. I have a monitor app on the smartphone that Kinley gave me,” she said. “Why?”

“I want you,” he said, under his breath.

She flushed. “Me, too.”

He led her down the stairs after she made sure both kids were sleeping in her big bed, then into the kitchen, where he lifted her up onto the counter and tunneled his fingers into her hair and kissed her deeply.

He had told himself this was so she wouldn’t forget him, but he knew this was for him. He wanted her as many times as he could have her and in as many different ways. For himself. For those long winter nights he knew were coming. Long nights when he’d be all alone and hungry and hard for a woman who had never thought of him as anything other than her temporary man.

She pushed her hands up under his shirt and then reached into the back of his jeans, cupping his ass and drawing him farther in between her legs. He shifted around, rubbing the tip of his erection against her. Running his hands up and down her back, he pulled her forward toward him, but there was too much clothing in the way.

His jeans, her jeans. He lifted her off the counter and knelt to help her take off her boots. She put one foot on his thigh. He grabbed the toe with one hand and the heel with the other and helped her take off the first boot. Then he made quick work of the other.

She was wearing socks with hearts and flowers on them. He pulled them off and tossed them toward her boots. Her feet were small and delicate in his big hands. Her pedicure was a racy red color that matched the lipstick he recalled her wearing to the bachelor auction.

His cock jumped as he remembered the way she’d looked that night, and he groaned at the pain. He straightened and reached for the button at his waistband and undid it, lowering the zipper so that his erection had room. She reached down and touched the tip of it, stroking with her fingers in the opening of his jeans.
