Dash slept straight through Bookerâs call. He was so damn tired, physically and mentally. Their practice schedule had been grueling. Unfortunately, now Booker wasnât answering his phone and Dash didnât know what to do. He knew Booker and his dad had a contentious relationship. Dash had never been clear on why. He gathered Booker didnât like his stepmom. Dash always assumed she was the heart of their problems. Either way, he couldnât help if Booker wouldnât answer the phone.
Dash turned on the TV, hoping to stay awake in case Booker called back. He barely spared it a glance as he stared at his phone, willing it to ring.
âAnd in other sports news tonight, amid rumors of contract breakdowns between Lev Medvedkov and the Phoenix Ice Rays, Medvedkov was spotted earlier tonight in New Orleans. It was said he was with none other than a coach from the Chuckersâ sled team, Booker Stevenson. Could this private dinner at the upscale Sauvage Steakhouse be the first signs the gossip is true? Is Medvedkov being courted by the Chuckers?â
The rapid succession of emotions Dash experienced couldnât be described. For a straight five minutes, he couldnât decide how he felt until he landed on enraged. He snatched up the device that had fallen from his hand in his shock. Before he could find Bookerâs number to call and rip into him, the device rang in his hand. It was Booker. He pressed the device to his ear, ready to blast him.
âHey, baby. Guess who I ran into tonight?â
Dash couldnât see past the red in his vision. âFucking Lev Medvedkov.â
A moment of silence met his furious tone. âHow did you know that?â
Dash wanted to kill someone. âIt was on the goddamn news. Did you have fun going out with someone else, and to Sauvage, of all places? Was the guy trying to make you see exactly how much he could give you I canât?â
âWhat? The news?â Booker sounded genuinely confused.
Dash couldnât care. He was too angry. âI guess I really jumped the gun on the whole no condom thing. Exactly how long have you been fucking this guy? Do I need to get tested early?â
âWhat the fuck are you talking about?â
âDonât play dumb.â Dash heard himself and he couldnât stop. He couldnât recall ever being so furious.
To his surprise, Booker went completely calm. âI wish you had let me know I could no longer see any of my friends. Thatâs not something I wouldâve agreed to for anyone. If youâre looking for a hostage, look elsewhere. I'm not the one.â Booker didnât wait for Dashâs response before hanging up on him.
Dash immediately tried calling back, but it went straight to voicemail. âGoddamn it, Booker. Answer my call.â He called again, only to be sent straight to voicemail again. This time, he didnât bother leaving a message before chucking his phone across the room.
Dash stared at the wall and fumed. He didnât know what to think. Dashâs temper had snapped so fast, he couldnât think. In his frustration, he scrubbed at his forehead.
