Brodie had intentionally moved a little slower tonight. While he had sneaked into Cato’s room during every travel game, and they left together after every home game, no one had seen them quite like they would tonight. Not to mention Cato’s twin was in town. It felt like he was being taken to meet the family. Tonight felt like a big deal—like they would cross an invisible line in the sand.

They had ridden to the arena together, the way they always did these days. As Cato’s home came into view, Brodie’s nerves stretched to the limit. Cars already sat in the driveway. Cato had to maneuver around one to get inside the garage where Brodie’s Jeep already sat. In that moment, it hit Brodie exactly how entwined their lives had become.

As they came through the door, they found Daire eating chips and trading barbs with Jay. A smaller man with the most beautiful features Brodie had ever seen lit from the inside at the sight of them. He ran at Cato. Cato snatched him from his feet.

“Holy shit. I’ve missed you.”

Jay ran their way, mimicking the blond in Cato’s arms. He pretended as if he, too, planned to jump into Cato’s arms. “It’s my brother!”

Cato laughed. “Hey, Jay.” He didn’t set the blond down. It was as if he couldn’t. They whispered to each other. Brodie couldn’t make out what was said. A tear slipped down the blond’s beautiful face. Even though they looked nothing alike, except for their eyes, Brodie suspected this was the twin. He knew they had a bond. It had weighed on Cato being separated from the best half of himself. His words. Not Brodie’s.

Finally, Cato set Callan on his feet. Callan swiped at his eyes while Cato and Jay hugged. Finally, Cato motioned Brodie’s way. “This is Brodie. Brodie, my twin, Callan. I’m sure you know Jay, even if you haven’t met.”

Callan had a soft handshake. He blushed and backed into his husband’s hold. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Jay reached around Callan and shook Brodie’s hand. He was huge and over enthusiastic like a gigantic puppy. “You’re Will West’s son, right? The Chuckers’ equipment manager?”

Brodie nodded. “That’s me.”

“Your dad was the absolute greatest.”

Brodie smiled. “He still is.”

Jay laughed. “That doesn’t surprise me.”

Cato checked his watch. “I don’t want to rush anyone along, but the show is about to start.” Brodie grabbed them each a Coke and moved to the living room. Several members of the team were scattered about, eating all Cato’s snacks and putting their feet on the furniture. There were two seats left on the couch and a recliner. Jay dropped on the recliner before pulling Callan into his lap, leaving the couch to Cato and him. They sat side by side. Their thighs touched. Cato turned up the sound on the television as the show’s intro started. He draped his arm across the back of the couch, over Brodie’s shoulders, and leaned his way. Brodie swore he felt Callan’s stare. Thankfully, the show started, engrossing everyone in the room.
