Chapter 12: Road to Recovery
Now that Sasha was aware that Garrett and I were well acquainted, I noticed she became very distant from me. Although we were roommates, it was very rare that she and I would be in the room at the same time. I understood that Garrett was her brother, but I was confused as to why she took the fact that we knew each other so hard. I didn’t want to force Sasha to talk to me, so I did my own thing and continued to put forth my best attempt to recover from my addiction. I often sat in the room and replayed in my head the events that led me to my predicament. I was interrupted mid thought by a knock on my door.
“Yes,” I responded to the knock as I got up to greet whoever was at the door.
“Well hello Ms. Lewis, I just wanted to inform you that you are getting a new roommate today. Ms. Anderson has decided she no longer needs our services, so her brother signed her out this morning. I wasn’t sure if you were aware, but I wanted to make sure you knew before you got barraged with your new roomie.” Tiffany stated before she took notes on her clipboard and headed back to the main office.
“That bitch!” I yelled. I was upset by the lack of consideration from both Sasha and Garrett. I still wanted to continue my friendship with Sasha even though she bailed on me and left without saying goodbye. I didn’t want to hold a grudge and I didn’t want to keep that emotion bottled up. I wanted to make sure that I stayed focused on the task at hand which was me being and staying clean.
I only had a couple more weeks before I would be able to discharge myself from the facility and I felt proud of the accomplishments that I made while admitted.
“Ms. Lewis, you have a visitor.” Tiffany stated as she poked her head in the room and watched as I got up from my bed to see who decided to pay me a visit. The only other person who knew that I was in the facility was Tracie, and that was because she called around until she found out where I was.
“Hey Tracie, what did I do to deserve this visit?” I asked Tracie as I sat down and joined her at the communal table.
“Well, I wanted to check on you. I also wanted to update you on how things are doing at the business. We could have handled this over the phone, but you never responded to any of my voicemails. You just sent me a vague text saying that you were okay.” Tracie stated as she pulled out a larger manila folder from her huge Michael Kors purse.
“Yeah, I wasn’t thinking clearly or in the correct frame of mind, and that’s something I wanted to discuss with you. I know you need me to sign off on a couple of documents and before we get into that I want to discuss some things.
