Chapter Five

Drew held Olivia’s eyes for a moment longer and then nodded a seductive yes. They stood up, still holding hands, and left the restaurant. They walked for a bit in the darkness along a sandy road, talking and looking at the stars. Every now and then Olivia was uncertain on her feet, but Drew’s strong hand held her steady.

“Do you know anything about stars? Like constellations, and stuff?” Olivia asked in a giddy, slightly slurred voice.

“I learned the basics in… scouts. You know, Orion’s belt, The Big and Little Dippers, the Northern Cross… what about you?”

“Oh yeah, I actually have a degree in Astrology.” Olivia hiccupped.

“That’s not… don’t you mean Astronomy?”

“Oh, shit. Yeah, that one. Don’t laugh! I’m one hundred percent serious. For example, this one over here,” Olivia pointed to a small cluster of stars. “It connects to that star there… and that one. Do you see that bright one? Yes, so that’s called…Neptune’s Bucket. It used to contain the milky way but then it spilled over. That’s all the cluster of stars there.”

She turned her head to see Drew looking at her intently.

“You are full of it.”

Olivia laughed.

“I almost believed you, you know!” Drew shook her head, her eyes twinkling in the dark.

Soon, the round shape of a thatched house came into view, and the sight of the restaurant’s lights and the moon reflected off the sea. Drew walked her to her front door. After a quick fumble, Olivia managed to get the key in. She opened the door and stood in the doorway, facing Drew.

“Thank you for walking me home. You’re such a gentleman.”

“My room is 200 meters further, so I was actually walking this way anyway.” Drew teased.

Olivia gently punched her on the side of the arm.

“That’s quite far. I don’t feel comfortable with you walking so far, alone at night.”

Drew narrowed her eyes at Olivia, a grin curling in the corner of her mouth.

“So, I think it would be better,” Olivia continued, shyly glancing at the ground. “If you spent the night.”

Her heart was hammering inside her chest. After a moment’s silence, she looked up.

The moment she locked eyes with Drew, she saw the answer. Drew moved forward and kissed her on her expectant lips, pushing her gently back into the moonlit room. Olivia wrapped her arms around Drew’s neck and smiled into the passionate kiss. It was definitely the answer she wanted to hear.

She fell back into the room and closed her eyes, drunk on the alcohol and the feeling of being in Drew’s arms. She held Drew’s face close to hers and kissed her for the longest time. Only when she started to feel breathless did she pull back.

“I’ve been wanting to kiss you the whole night.”

“I know the feeling,” Drew responded before gently kissing her bare neck. Olivia tilted her head back in pleasure, a soft moan escaped her lips. She felt giddy with happiness. Drew had chosen her, after all.

They stepped back into the moonlit room and towards the bed. As they reached the foot of it, Olivia stopped.
