Krista, Melanie, and the girls fell into a pleasant rhythm as June turned into July. Krista had lunch with them nearly everyday and went by after work. On weekends when Krista wasnât working they biked, swam, played games, or simply watched TV together.
At night when the girls went to bed Krista and Melanie were able to sneak kisses and hold one another close. Krista began to think this was what it would be like to have her own family and realized she was part of this one and she liked it.
Julia would join them for lunch sometimes and also joined them on weekends occasionally. One day she had to go in and pick up supplies for the resort and asked the girls to go with her. This gave Krista and Melanie the opportunity to have lunch alone with no interruptions or need to be discreet.
They were naked, arms wrapped around one another still breathing hard when Krista said, âIâd better get dressed.â
âThe girls wonât be back for a while.â
âI know, but I am supposedly at work,â Krista said sitting up, but then she turned to look at Melanie. She was laying there, her brown hair fanned out across the pillow. She had one arm above her head and the other rested on Kristaâs back. âYou are so breathtaking,â she said around the lump that had suddenly formed in her throat.
Instead of getting up she swung her leg around and straddled Melanie. She intertwined the fingers on both their hands and looked down at her with such love. âIâd marry you if I could.â
Melanieâs eyes widened and her eyebrows shot up her forehead.
âI could happily spend the rest of my life with you and the girls,â Krista declared.
Melanie smiled, âBut what about your career?â
âThere are lots of things I can do with my career. Just know I love you that much Melanie and can see our life together. Have you thought about it?â
âOf course I have, Kris. But there are so many things that go with it.â
âI know. I think what I want you to know and to think about is that this isnât just for the summer anymore. I know it started that way, but Mel I canât imagine my life without you in it. Okay?â
âOkay. I understand you want me to know how you feel and believe me I feel the same way. But next week we will take the girls to their dad for two weeks. Can we talk about it then? Because right now, with you on top of me like this, I really need you to kiss me before Julia brings them back. I need to feel you, Kris,â she said with a hint of desperation in her voice and love in her eyes.
âGod I love you,â Krista said, crashing her lips on Melanieâs.
âI love you, too,â Melanie said between kisses. âI love your body on mine,â she breathed.
Krista raised up quickly. âCan I spend the night?â
âWhat?â Melanie said.
Krista grinned and leaned down and kissed Melanie again.
