Chapter Fourteen
It took Merlin two hours to come back with Amabala and she looked highly freaked out, even more so with both Arden and I laying gasping on the floor with Cassia offering pointers to us as she stood between us.
We were all battered and bruised, sure, but now Cassia, Arden, and me were in the clear. No hard feelings that we were aware of.
Though I was still uncertain as to what was going on emotionally for both of them.
And noânosy whiskersâI donât want you to tell me. Galaxy just flicked her tail at me as she continued to snack on the basilisk meat. Any luck leveling up at all?
Why do you think I consume this thing? Remember, experience here comes from me consuming what you kill.
I grimaced and left her to her devices. We ate the meat Cassia prepared, though Amabala was reticent about it. Her nose scrunched up as she took a delicate bite, Cassia watching her. She made a placating sound and rubbed her stomach like an adult might mime to a child and Cassia just snorted and turned back to her own food.
I took a bite of the meat in my hand and hissed, the heat of it a little more than what I had thought it would be.
Basilisk â Devoured â Your consumption of the basiliskâs body permanently altered the makeup of your body. Physique increased by 1, and resistance to poison and venom increased.
I grinned at that and continued to eat the food, and judging by the othersâ reactions, they were getting similar messages.
I thought about it for a minute and reached out to the frozen chunks, grabbing a chunk that could mean something. I had resistance to venom, right? The most it could do was make me sick. What if I ate a tooth? Or some of the venom directly?
The globe of ice helped keep you from being petrified right away, and the fact that the cold made it sleepy gave me enough time to counteract the petrification process, Galaxy yowled at me in her cat form. Do not try the venom!
âYes, maâam.â I sighed and Cassia looked at me strangely. âEating certain things has a chance of giving me extra perks. Like the Bite of the Wolf having given me accelerated healing.â
She perked up and began to sift through the chunks of ice near her. She grabbed a piece and held up what looked like an eye. I tried to tell her to stop, but she popped it into her mouth like a gory popsicle before she bit down on it.
She chewed it and swallowed then stilled, and grinned widely. âIt says that my gaze can petrify people who are weaker than me for a mana cost!â
âYou gotta be careful with that!â I hissed at her as she went for another one, but paused at my reprimand. âThere can be harmful effects too, like my slight allergy to silver.â
âInteresting,â Merlin muttered as he ate, a contemplative look on his face. âSo, theoretically, we could eat magical creatures and gain abilities and stats from it and grow uber powerful.
