âOh!â
With a gasp of surprise, Eleanor let go of the board and she landed straight into the arms of her instructor. Her mind went blank. She could not ignore the press of hard muscles against her bare stomach. The feel of Kaiâs breasts crushed against her own made her nipples rock-hard under the thin fabric of her bikini top. Without a shadow of a doubt, she knew that Kai would be able to feel that. Her skin was so damn hot⦠Her mouth, so close. Blood-red lips could not have been more of an invitation if sheâd said it out loud again. Kiss meâ¦
âEllie.â
Eleanor almost whimpered under a wave of raging desire. At the back of her mind, she was aware that she had not been this turned on in a number of years. Also, that Kai had just said something. Didnât sound like what was in Eleanorâs head. And finally, urgently, that she had to let go of her. Right now, dammit!
âIâm sorry.â She took a clumsy step back.
Meanwhile, Kai expelled a quick breath and fixed her with eyes gone slightly hazy, perhaps reflective of her own reaction.
âYouââ she started, and stopped briefly to clear her throat. âYou forgot your leash, Ellie.â
Oh, is that what it was? As Kai bent to untangle the length of polyurethane cord from around her ankle, Eleanor also reached to help but only succeeded in knocking heads with her when Kai straightened up. Instantly, Kai steadied her again with a strong hand.
âGosh, Iâm sorry,â Eleanor grumbled.
Kaiâs expression was neutral now, totally focused on her.
âSure youâre okay?â she asked.
âSure.â Eleanor laughed, realising the ridiculousness of the situation. She was perfectly fine; just losing her mind a little bit, and determined not to share the reason why. âYou did warn us about the leashâ¦â
âWell, itâs a lot to take in.â
âNo, it isnât,â Eleanor shot back. Kai broke into a grin at her amused ironic tone and the sudden tension between them eased. âIâm a clutz from time to time. This stuffâs not rocket science.â
âNoâ¦â Kai obviously meant to say more but she held back on it, biting on her lip, as if considering her next sentence very carefully.
Before she could say it, Jackie called from the water.
âCome on, girls! What are you waiting for?â
Eleanor gripped the leash with the same hand that she held the board, as Kai had taught them to do. She was extremely keen not to repeat her earlier mistake, if only because ending up in Kaiâs arms again might completely undo her. She flashed her a quick smile.
âOkay, letâs go do it.â
âEllie.â Kai held her back with just a finger.
âYes?â Eleanor prompted when she hesitated.
Kaiâs gaze softened, giving Eleanor yet another interesting glimpse into a more private side of her. But then she just grinned again, and shook her head.
âNo, nothing. Youâve got it.â
Eleanor wondered what was really on her mind. She ached to find out. With a twinge of regret and resignation, she reflected that Kai might not be holding back so much if Eleanor herself had not told her explicitly to back off the other night.
