At her apartment, Christopher got out, opened the door for her, and walked with her to the front door. Before Riley could unlock the door, Christopher took the key from her. He unlocked the door and stood aside for her to enter. They both started talking at the same time and then stopped.

“Ladies first,” he said with a grin.

“I wanted to know if you would like some coffee.”

“And I wanted to know if I could come in, so my answer is yes, thank you.”

While they waited for the coffee to brew, they chatted about the evening. Christopher leaned against the counter, his finger rubbing his ear.

“What are you thinking, Chris?”

Christopher looked at her in surprise. “How do you know I was thinking?”

Riley laughed, “You’re rubbing your ear. You always did it when you were thinking about something. Jon does it too.”

Christopher looked incredulous, “Are you serious? That’s cool.”

Riley rolled her eyes and chuckled. “Two days in your son’s company and you already say ‘cool’.”

She turned and poured the coffee. They took their cups and went to the lounge where Christopher joined her on the couch. Christopher put his mug on the coffee table and leaned back. His arm was resting on the back of the sofa, and his hand was playing with her hair. Did he even realise he was doing it?

He still didn’t share his thoughts, and Riley did not want to push. He suddenly looked at her with a flush on his face, “Did you notice how quiet everyone got when we walked in?”
