The next week flew by and Krista and Melanie spent as much time together as possible. They both missed the girls and were looking forward to picking them up the next day.

“This has been the best day,” Krista said, her head resting on Melanie’s chest.

Melanie giggled. “I can’t believe we’ve been in this bed most of the day.”

“It’s a lazy Saturday,” Krista said, sitting up. She leaned down and kissed Melanie softly. “Mmm, I could do that all day.”

Melanie giggled again. “You have been doing that all day.”

Krista laughed. “I guess I have.”

“The girls come back tomorrow,” Melanie said, stretching her arms overhead. “It’s time to talk while we can, uninterrupted.”

“Okay,” Krista said, leaning against the headboard next to Melanie. “I think you know this, but I want to be sure. I love you, Mel,” she said, smiling. “This can’t end when the summer does. I know you have to go back to Houston and your business, and I have one more year in school.”

“I don’t want it to end either, Krista, but we have a lot to…” She paused. “Consider,” she finished.

“I know. Number one are the girls.”

“No. Number one is your school.”

“I’ve looked into schools in your area,” Krista started.

“Nope,” Melanie interrupted her. “I’ve looked into schools too. Yours is the best for drama and you need to finish there. That’s where you have the connection to Hollywood.”

Krista looked down and then moved to face Melanie. “What if I don’t want to go to Hollywood?”

Melanie smiled and said quietly, “You have to go to Hollywood.”

“Why? I can do things with theater or even music in Houston.”

“My sweet, baby girl,” Melanie said, holding Krista’s face. “You belong in Hollywood. You have to share this gift with the world. You wanted to before you met me and that shouldn’t change.”

“But–” Krista exclaimed.

“That doesn’t mean we won’t figure out some way to be together. Hollywood may be a bright, exciting mistress, but she can’t take you away from me.”

“Does that mean you and the girls will come with me?”

“I don’t know about that. We have some things to figure out first. Like, what happens when we tell our families? I know you haven’t come out to your parents yet and you’ll be selective about that after you graduate.”

“What about the girls? I don’t want to hurt them and you know they’ll get teased.”

“I know, but I also know they are strong and they love you. I’m not sure how much they’ll understand, but I’m explaining it to them eventually.”

Krista nodded. “What do we do in the meantime? I still have to go back to school and you have to go home.”

“I’m going to work my ass off to get this business up and going. That way we’ll have more options when you graduate.”

“I can come to you on weekends. You and the girls can come see me when we have a production. Julia and I have an apartment this year, so y’all can stay with us.”

“We can work that so the girls can see their grandparents then, too.
