Don’t agree to going back to work without discussing it with me first played on Toni’s mind as she pulled into an empty parking space in the executive section of Entice’s underground parking. She took a deep breath, doing her best to push all thoughts of Joel from her mind. She picked up her bag and shut the door of her Lexus. She strode across the car park to the lifts, her heels click-clacking. Even the sound of her heels brought a smile to her face. She’d been slopping around in Ugg boots the last few weeks. Nikes had been dressing up as they signified her leaving the house. To be in a suit, heels and make-up, even for a few hours, was a great feeling.

Toni rode the lift to level six and stepped out into the reception area. Lindsay looked up from behind the front desk and smiled. ‘Toni, how wonderful to see you. Back from maternity leave already?’

Toni smiled. ‘I wish!’ The words escaped Toni’s mouth before she could stop them. She coughed. ‘How are you?’

Lindsay raised an eyebrow. ‘You wish? I thought we’d never see you again the way you’d been talking about babies and motherhood.’

Toni gave a self-conscious laugh. ‘Honestly, so did I. Ruby’s gorgeous and wonderful but I’m so used to the hectic pace in here, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss it. Now, how’s that gorgeous man of yours?’

‘He’s great. We’re moving in together.’

‘Congratulations,’ Toni said, wondering at what stage Lindsay would discover he was cheating on her. ‘I’d better go and see Rob. No need to let him know I’m here. He’ll work that out soon enough.’ She flashed another smile and made her way down the corridor to Rob’s office.
