What followed could not have been more perfect, even if it had been scripted. The protestors began asking Mike’s questions for him. Turning directly to the congressman, an outraged white mother demanded:

WOMAN: May I ask you a question? Where do their children go to school? Private schools or public schools? Eliot Richardson, where does [sic] his kids go to school? Kennedy, where does his go to school?

Since the camera was rolling, the Congressman had no choice but to respond:

FAUNTROY: Yes, the answer is, I believe, that all of them have their children in private schools …
