Chapter Seven

Freddy couldn’t believe he’d turned into such a wuss about this, but he did.

He’d wanted Jason to bite him. The first alpha he’d ever wanted to put his mating bite there, and he didn’t do it.

Freddy had promised not to hog all the hot water, but that was exactly what he did when he was under the spray.

Anything to take his mind off the way his throat ached, and his eyes burned. Better for the burn to be on his ugly skin.

He wasn’t dumb. He saw the way Jason had looked at his other scars, and Freddy figured he should stop being so greedy and unrealistic.

Everyone had a standard. Freddy wasn’t even a real mate. He was mail order, and he couldn’t stop until Mickey was paid back for everything he’d done for Freddy.

Jason didn’t even initially want him. Freddy was only here because of his meddling, rich father.

Freddy’s eyes snapped wide open in the shower when he realized it.

Jason’s dad wanted children. Only omegas could bear alpha children.

Freddy was a male, and he wasn’t in heat, but it was still possible…

He wasn’t going to think about that right now. He’d go insane if he did. For now, he spent his time scrubbing the last of Jason’s pleasant smell from his body. He didn’t want this. He didn’t want any of this.

He didn’t want to fall for the first stupid alpha to treat him nicely. He didn’t want to love and hate Jason for not biting him.

He was so confused.

Freddy curled up on the couch downstairs, hugging a pillow to himself while he searched for something to watch on Netflix. He settled for something true crime-related because then it was a reminder that there were others in the world who had it worse than he did.

He was just lonely and kind of pathetic. He had it amazing compared to the poor bastards he watched on TV.

He woke up the next day and felt a little better. He hadn’t cried, and ultimately, it wasn’t a bad night. He had some good sex for the first time in a long time, so he wasn’t going to feel sorry for himself. That was off the table.

What was on the table were pancakes and bacon. Those were always awesome.

Jason came downstairs, ruffling a towel through his hair from his morning shower, and Freddy had to admit, he looked great.

Jason looked at him, looked at the spread, and thankfully, took the hint that Freddy didn’t really want to talk about how they’d parted last night.

“You look like you’re trying to feed an army here.”

Freddy grinned. “Leftover pancakes are just as delicious as fresh ones. I can put anything we don’t eat into the fridge for tomorrow.”

They actually chatted like old friends at his table. Eating, drinking, and when they finished, Jason grumbled that he had to call his father.

“I have to tell him how things are going. He’s been blowing up my phone, but I won’t tell him about us,” Jason said quickly. “That’s not his business.
