THE dinner tables had been set and the food was being laid by a stream of people from the congregation when Simon saw Luke emerging from the door. As he got closer, he could see that Luke’s eyes were red-rimmed and swollen.
“Hey.” Simon reached out for his lover, pleased when Luke came willingly into his arms. Steering him out of sight of the main crowd, Simon cupped Luke’s face with one hand and tilted his chin so he could look into Luke’s eyes. “Are you all right?”
Luke nodded. “I will be. I just needed to deal, y’know?”
“And Morry?”
“She’s a good horse. She’s not Lulu, but she’s a fine addition.” Luke’s face crumpled again.
Simon kissed the tears that crept onto Luke’s cheeks. “Nothing will take the place of Lulu, but Morry will be good for you.” He watched as Luke tried to compose himself enough to face Christmas dinner. “Do you want to beg off dinner? We could eat later?”
“Momma would never forgive us. I’ll go wash my face and meet you at the table.” Luke leaned against Simon’s chest.
Simon hugged him, noting once more how thin he’d gotten. “We’ll go together. I’m not facing the baying mob alone.”
“I’m telling Momma you said that,” Luke teased as they walked toward the house.
“Traitor.”
“You’re lucky she loves you.”
Simon grinned. “I know.” He kept his arm around Luke, acting as a human shield, shaking his head every time someone looked over and caught sight of Luke. He didn’t want anyone bothering Luke until they sat down to the meal.
“I should put a leash on you,” Luke murmured.
“A leash?”
“If you’re going to act as my human guard dog.”
Simon squeezed Luke’s shoulders. “You noticed, huh?”
“It was kinda obvious.” Luke reached up and pressed a kiss into Simon’s jaw. “Thank you.”
“No problem. And if I remember correctly, you prefer the leash attached to you.” He snickered when Luke missed a step.
Oh yeah, from the blush spreading across Luke’s cheeks, Luke liked the leash just fine. They had a black leather version that clipped onto his cock ring. It had been a while since they had played with the toys. Maybe it was time to break out the leather again.
He didn’t get Luke’s reply because Momma waved them over to the barn.
“Come on, boys, we’re waiting for you.”
Simon saw Pamela looking at her son, and then she looked at him. She raised her eyebrows, but at Simon’s nod, she said, “The food’s getting cold.”
From the wall of sound that hit Simon as he walked into the barn, there was more than one excited person around the table. Simon made sure Luke was seated, wincing as he did so, before he took his own seat.
Luke scowled at him. “Dude, I’m not a girl.”
Simon arched an eyebrow, letting his gaze sweep deliberately down to Luke’s crotch and up again. “I can see that,” he drawled and then laughed as Luke blushed even harder. “But that color”—he flicked Luke’s cheek—“such a girl.”
“We’re just waiting on Simon…,” Noah said as he got to his feet.
