I have dared enter the cemetery after midnight

To find the papers of the writer I admired

Who warned men of monsters in his pages

Ignored by all until the joy of hope expired.

Witches found the hated book on a mountain

The portal opened and all cities burned to dust

I exhumed Lovecraft to find his rotten papers

His unpublished notes and pen turned to rust.

From the ashes of sunken places, I have prayed

Reciting spells to undo hate of witches past

Who Lovecraft rejected when he was alive

Who lost their soul when spells were cast.

I have dared enter the cemetery after midnight

To miss the ugly monsters I came creeping

Then broke my spade across Lovecraft’s face

When I found inside his box he was not sleeping.
