Chapter Thirteen
"Do you ever visit a place and the history of it makes you sad? Harper asked.
"I like you, but please don't ruin Rome for me." Blakely grinned wrapping an arm around Harper's waist resting her hand inside her back jean pocket.
"What? I would never. I love Rome. I do."
"But."
"The Coliseum makes me sad. All those people forced to fight to the death or torn apart by wild animals." Blakely contorted her face. Even she had to admit that while the site was impressive, there was a grimness to it as well. She shook her head her mind shifting gears.
"I'll admit it's not my favorite place to visit. There are many other beautiful things in Rome though."
"Agreed. I enjoyed the architecture of The Pantheon. What's your favorite thing in Rome?" Harper asked absent mindedly while trying to decipher a map of the city she had insisted on picking up."
"You want to know my favorite thing in Rome?" Blakely chuckled.
"Yeah, of course I want to know." Harper grinned back at her, looking up from her map to catch Blakely's eyes. They stare at each other for a moment. Sizing one another up.
"That's easy, I'm looking at her. You're my favorite thing in Rome right now." Blakely's voice dropped an octave. When Harper tried to playfully slap her arm, Blakely caught her hand. Gently pulling Harper closer grabbing hold of her hips. She felt a rush as Harper leaned into her embrace.
"Oh, come on, we have to behave. Let me show you more of Rome before we go back to the room." Harper groaned and Blakely poked her in the side a couple of times before grabbing her hand. Blakely couldn't remember the last trip she had felt this way. Her life revolved around travel, yet she had become sucked into the monotony. The booking of flights, arranging passports, lodging, guides, whatever else she needed. All the little details involved with planning a trip had seemed to be sucking out all the joy of her journeys lately. That's why for this trip she had decided to try a touring company. Let someone else handle the planning of the trip. Then she had met Harper. Seeing the city through her eyes brought back the magic and inspired a sense of awe. Harper had been exactly what she needed at just the right time. Nothing in her life had ever felt so right.
Since Florence she'd been trying to push down her feelings of dread. Sure, things were perfect between her and Harper now. Who couldn't get along when they were in romantic cities, drinking wine and eating pasta? Blakely was worried though. Worried that once they got back to The States reality would hit them hard.
They were going to go from being with each other 24 hours a day to what exactly? It was doubtful they would be able to see each other every weekend, even every other weekend would be a stretch with Blakely's schedule. An aching throb formed between her legs, realization setting in that in just a short time they would no longer share a bed at night.
