Chapter Sixteen

Wyatt

Darius’s bedroom alone is unreal. It’s almost the size of my apartment. It’s got its own bathroom. The bed could sleep six people easily. I know Darius is fancy. Why does he bother with my place?

He hops onto his bed, laying himself out like he’s posing for a fireman’s calendar. “Want to fuck me in the bed I lost my virginity in?”

“There’s no way that’s true.”

He smirks. “No, but I was trying to create a mood. Roleplay, Major. You’ve ruined it.”

“Pretty sure being a virgin skipped you altogether. I don’t like what you’re wearing.”

“You’re still thinking about that?”

He wouldn’t wear my clothes to his house.

“Go to my closet. Left hand side,” he says undressing.

His walk-in closet is the size of my kitchen. “This is ridiculous, Darius.” Some of the items still have tags. Three thousand for a shirt? For one shirt? My heart races.

“I regret sending you in there for the record.”

I find what he sent me in here for. There’s a hanger with my hoodie on it. Underneath is a pair of sweats, also mine. I carry them to him.

He’s on the bed in just his boxer briefs. “You’re going to have to let me wear my own clothes sometime.”

“Really? I don’t recall makin’ that rule.” I slide my grey hoodie and sweats onto him. That’s better.

“You were supposed to have sex with me first.”

“Later. First the bird. Then food.” I’m starved.

He’s taken his socks off too. He’s barefoot and I like that. It’s like he undresses from his Randall mystique for me. “We are too early in our relationship to become an old married couple, Major. You’re supposed to be dying to fuck me at every moment of every day.”

“I want to see the bird,” I demand.

“C’mon then.”

He drags me down the hall to a large room. It’s open to the outside with a caged ceiling, lots of windows and greenery. Toys hang everywhere as well as ropes and other things to perch on. Octavius is a large red parrot with blue, green, and yellow feathers layered into his wings and a white and black beak. It’s exactly the kind of parrot you’d picture a pirate having. Spreading his great wings, he flies over and lands on Darius’s shoulder.

“You’re so cute,” he says, clear as day.

“I thought you said he couldn’t talk?”

“Yeah. Because he had throat cancer. Once that was cleared up, I brought in a bird talking specialist. He still doesn’t say as much as other parrots, but he says plenty. Don’t you, Octavius?”

The bird whistles. “You’re so cute,” he repeats. The bird adores Darius.

Of course, Darius’s bird knows that phrase.

There’s a fridge on the other side of the sanctuary-type room. Darius retrieves a selection of fruits and vegetables for Octavius, hand feeding him some and putting others into a bowl. “Should we bring him downstairs and freak Silas out?”

His cheek is bruised from last night. Ice kept the swelling minimal, but there’s enough of a reminder I have no wish to agitate Silas. “No.”

“You’re not allowed to come here and be the police of no fun.
