The next morning, her eyes hadn’t even opened yet, and she felt the urge. The age old fluttering in the tummy, the uncomfortable in her own skin nagging, life sucking feeling that she had had her entire life. Why did she feel like this? She wanted to get high. Just a drink and a line she thought to herself. It wasn’t like she was going to jump up and start free basing cocaine, or main lining heroin, she just needed to kill that goddamned monkey on her back that wouldn’t shut the fuck up for two seconds so she could enjoy her life. That feeling that SHOULD have left her considering the fact that she was safe now. That she had someone, that she had EVERYTHING, but that didn’t change her life the way she thought it would, even though she was now living with Carlos in a life she thought she always wanted.

She hated that she felt the way she did, despite living so comfortably. She was lying in a beautiful king-sized bed with the most expensive sheets and comforter that money could buy. She ate the best food every day and was driven everywhere she needed to go. She had everything a girl could want, but she still got that gnawing feeling in the pit of her stomach that told her she needed to be somewhere else, anywhere else, but here.

Carlos was like a prince to her when he was with her. As she had known when she met him, he was involved with other women. She rarely brought this subject up, and when she did, it was more than uncomfortable.

Carlos didn’t like being questioned about anything, and she knew it. Up until now, she had never pushed when he told her to leave things alone. But she was agitated and when she felt this way she needed something to keep her busy. Besides, somewhere in the back of her mind, she knew if she pissed him off enough, he might kick her out, and she would be able to get high like she wanted.

Her mind was filled with non-stop thoughts at all times of the day and night, so it wasn’t hard for her to find something to bother him about. His cheating seemed to be the perfect thing to bring up when he got home. She had no idea what she was asking for when she started with him this particular night, but she went for it anyway.

She sat in the living room, drinking a rum and coke. She hadn’t had any drugs in a month and had been living with him and his bullshit for about that long. Her craving for cocaine was getting so strong. When she heard his car pull up, her heart began to beat faster. He opened the front door and came inside the house. He put his bags down on the floor and she called out to him. He said he was busy, but she wasn’t going for it. He started up the stairs, and she followed right behind him.
