The library is packed today, which is totally understandable considering all the finals scheduled before spring break. My mind drifts to next Saturday night, when Allure will be completely jam-packed for its St. Patrick’s Day celebration. We even have green halter tops to wear instead of our usual red ones. I suppose it’s to help make sure all the waitresses won’t get pinched by all our male customers wanting to get frisky.
Immediately my mind drifts back to the way Conley teased me about the belt. I’m pretty sure I don’t want the pain of leather biting my skin, but the thought of his hand giving me a nice smack makes me press my legs together quickly. I twirl the pen I’m holding in my hand before biting my lip. Conley was definitely an amazing one-night stand. I realize that I’m using his name in my thoughts and know that’s the reason I created my little rule. Now I’m thinking about him and it’ll make it that more difficult to focus.
Glancing around the room quickly, I wonder who my mother hired to tutor me. The fact that she found out my grades to begin with annoys me, but I can’t be angry with her. After all, they’re paying for everything, including my new apartment. Since seeing my grades, she insisted I have a place of my own so I can concentrate. If they knew I was working on the weekends, they’d flip out. According to them, studying is the only thing I should be doing.
I tap the keys on my computer a couple of times to see how many likes and comments I have on the video I posted about the latest outfit I purchased. I click out quickly, seeing that it’s the highest amount I’ve had since I started my little project. Of course, I have a closet full of clothes that never see the light of day. I’d never wear anything except black yoga pants and sweatshirts on campus. Blending in and trying to focus is the only thing that’s going to get me through medical school—my parents’ dream and definitely not mine. If I could just pass these classes, they’d be happy.
I hear hushed giggles and look up over the top of my computer screen to see a small gathering of women chatting together, occasionally looking at something. My eyes flick to what they’re staring at and widen immediately as I watch Conley come around the corner of a bookshelf.
What the hell is he—
“Hello, love.” His gray orbs shimmer with some sort of mischief.
My heart beats furiously, and whether it’s because I’m elated to see him again or because he’s not supposed to be here, I don’t know. “You can’t—” I glance around the library quickly, scanning to see if there’s another male that might be my tutor. “You’re…are you? You’re Mr. McClary?”
Conley places his bag in a chair before sitting in the one next to mine. “And you must be Elise. Why did you tell me your
