Chapter Eleven
The Corvette had been a nice gift from a father trying to build a relationship with his son. Alex rested her head back on the seat, enjoying the vibrations that came when Sam gunned it. This thing could outrun much. It could take them far. She wished they could drive and not look back. How far could this thing take them?
“We don’t have to go,” Sam said yet again. How many had that made now?
“I said yes,” Alex said.
“I don’t want you worrying.”
“You said they were both turned. They won’t be able to sense what I am.”
They shouldn’t at least. Alex already protested showing up at the Woods. There had to be others born a creature of the night, giving them a lead on learning to sense others. Alex had been fortunate enough at 23 to finally detect others. The distance hadn’t grown too much or perhaps she would have sensed those two walking in. Her mind had been focused on Sam, however.
Alex had found a two piece in her room. It looked a bit more like a one piece with the top coming to her belly button. Suits didn’t fit her like other women. She didn’t fill out the top and her body never grew more since she turned 15. When shopping at certain stores that didn’t supply a greater number of sizes, she would end up buying clothes that weren’t in the adult section. Luckily, she had only a few of those.
A grey shirt with Norsh, the mascot of Verdina University, fell past Alex’s waist. She wore a plain red ball cap. Years ago, she had a ponytail and would feed it out the back. Two years back, she chopped her hair this short. She kept it short. All it took was some brushing. She really had given up caring how she looked. What had been the point when no one really cared to look at her?
Sam drummed his hands on the wheel. He had found a white undershirt. His blue trunks had a cool, darker circle pattern upon them. She had not seen him pack a bag with spare clothes unlike her. He turned onto a drive with homes leaving little room between each other. Fences connected between each. She spied the stretch of lake behind. Professor McMaster had a lake front home on Lake Hurmel. Sam had spoken of this man teaching him at Gertran. It shocked Alex to learned there were nearly a dozen or more employed by the university that worked for the Arastia Organization. Why hadn’t she known?
The driveway was small. A single black sedan had gone a little into the grass to ensure part of the driveway could be accessed. The engine’s beautiful rumbles died behind it. Sam quickly pushed his door open. Alex debated with her bag at her feet. She tugged her towel and got out.
The sun above had no clouds to protect the humans below. Werewolves couldn’t tan because of their regeneration. Their body would heal whatever the sun attempted.
