Chapter 22

Kirnon

I

was a huge mess in my classes. Normally, nothing broke my concentration. But I had a blood blond with Hayley, and now we were connected by two different spells. Sometimes, it was like she was in the same room as me. I was worried about her when she left to talk to Rhys, and when I felt her panic, I didn’t even think. I bolted to my feet and intended to just walk out of class and find her.

I was in my compelling class, and my Vampire professor didn’t look too kindly on the scholarship students. I aced every test she gave me, but it was never good enough for her because my family didn’t have a name that went back centuries. She ordered me back into my seat and informed me if I walked out the door, to just keep walking because she would have me expelled.

She was up my ass for the rest of the class. She could tell there was something or someone I needed to go to, but she made me stay after class and kept me all the way through lunch. She made me miss my other classes and said she would send word to my other professors. This was college and not high school. I wasn’t even sure she could give me detention, but Professor Borgia was quite scary. She liked to brag her family ran Rome at one point.

I was starving before she finally let me go. I’d missed lunch, and I could sense Hayley was finally sleeping. Azriel was with her, and he was napping too. If I reached out to my various bonds, Colvyn was sleeping right next to them. Hayley was finally at peace, and I didn’t want to wake her.

I couldn’t sense Gaius as strongly as the others because we didn’t have a blood bond, but I could sense him through the bond we started last night saving Colvyn. He was with Keane, who I was easily able to locate. They were out in the woods outside the school. They had probably shown up to walk me from my compelling class and realized Professor Borgia was holding me hostage and had no idea what to do.

Now, I had no idea what to do. I’d beaten Rhys in a fight before, but could I handle more than one Hellhound if they tried to jump me? I needed to just deal with it. I couldn’t live my life in fear of Rhys Malum. Hayley was sleeping, and she felt peaceful. I decided to just let her sleep for now.

It was odd. No one approached me when I made my way out to the woods. I needed to eat, but I wasn’t even sure if the protein bar in my bag was safe. My stomach was growling. I was one of those skinny people who ate like a horse and was always hungry. I smelled this beautiful smell of roasting meat in the direction I was sensing Keane, so I just followed it.
