Jason was lucky enough to have another night off and he took the opportunity to curl up on his bed and watch the latest downloads of his favourite T.V. series. He was half-watching, half-dozing when someone knocked at his door, making him jump.

“Come in,” he yelled.

Tom poked his head around the door. “Hey. What are you watching? Porn?”

“Fuck off,” Jason said without heat. “You returning my car?”

“Well, I would do if it hadn’t been impounded.”

“What!” Jason sat up, almost knocking his laptop to the floor and only saving it by a quick move. “My car’s in the pound?”

“Of course it isn’t, you moron. I was just joking.”

“Thank Christ for that. Don’t laugh. It’s not funny.”

“It was a little funny.” Tom snickered. “You should have seen your face.”

“Not funny!”

“Yes, it was. But I’ve brought beer.” Tom produced a six pack of bottles. “It’s the one with the wild hops. Will that make it better?

“Great! I’ll get glasses. Damn, I’ve lost my place.”

Jason went to click to pause the programme but Tom said, “I snagged a couple of glasses from the pub. Keep it on. I’ll watch it while I drink one of your beers. Budge up.”

Jason shuffled up against the headboard and gave Tom space to settle down. “Long day?” he asked as Tom huffed in pleasure.

“I’m exhausted. I think every mum in the area decided to have a false alarm today.”

Jason poured the beer and gave a glass to Tom. They settled back and Jason started the programme again.

“I don’t think I know the series,” Tom said.

“It’s a new one. Don’t get attached to it. It’s already been cancelled in the States.”

As they drank the beer, Tom relaxed until his head was resting on Jason’s shoulder. Jason gently tugged the glass out of his hand before it spilled over his bed. Jason wasn’t surprised when he heard a low drawn-out snore.

“Hey you, you can stay here but no snoring.”

Tom snuffled and snorted but he didn’t wake up.

Jason sighed and took another sip of beer. “Sleep well.” He continued watching the laptop until the end credits and the glass was empty. He contemplated another episode and a fresh beer. “Why not?” He wasn’t going anywhere and he didn’t have an early start. As he reached for the bottles Tom slipped off his shoulder but he settled into the pillow rather than waking up. “You just make yourself comfortable.” Tom smacked his mouth and relaxed. Jason grinned and left him there.

A couple of shots and a loud explosion woke Tom up.

“What did I miss?” Tom said sleepily, knuckling his eyes.

“Bad guy attempts to take over the world. Good guy saves the day. Nothing much.”

“God, I’m really exciting, aren’t I? This is the second time I’ve fallen asleep on you.”

Jason patted his shoulder. “You added snoring this time.”

“I don’t snore.”

“How would you know?”

“Don’t we keep having this conversation?” Tom yawned loudly. “I should go home.”

Tom attempted to sit up but Jason pushed him back. “Are you working tomorrow?”

“No.”

“I’m not working ‘til the evening. Go back to sleep.
