One is respected by virtue of his good character, and not by virtue of his father or family. Vasudeva is not worshipped. But his son Krishna is worshipped as the Lord of beings and the world.

People generally believe that they gain respect if they are from a good family or born of a great father. One need not be born into a great family or of a great father to gain respect. It is only by virtue of his character that he is respected. The poet gives the example of Krishna and his father Vasudeva. Krishna is worshipped by virtue of his qualities as the Supreme Being, but none worships Vasudev because he is Krishna’s father.
