âI saw you kissing him,â Brandon said, sipping his coffee and giving Josh a knowing look. âAnd you tried to make me believe that it was all so innocent and platonic between the two of you. I know better, though. I knew I was right.â
Josh wasnât even sure why heâd gone over to Brandonâs apartment instead of just going back to sleep, but now he was really having second thoughts about that decision.
âWhat? Were you like, spying on us out the window?â Josh rubbed his forehead to try and stave off the headache he could already feel coming on. âIt wasnât what it looked like, anyway.â
âIt wasnât a kiss?â Brandon arched a brow. âBecause it sure looked like a kiss. And it lasted kind of a long time to have been some sort of mouth-to-mouth accident.â
Josh rolled his eyes. âOkay, so it was a kiss. But it never should have happened. I donât know why it happened.â
âYou kissed him or he kissed you?â
âHe kissed me.â
Brandonâs eyes grew even wider. âOh, wow. So whatâs the problem? I thought that was what you wanted.â
âI never said that was what I wanted.â Josh shook his head. âIâm pretty sure Iâve been saying weâre just friends this entire time.â
Josh had mostly gone to Brandonâs door with the intention of getting his mind off Kevin. A nice, funny distraction to keep him from thinking about last night.
He really hadnât expected that Brandon had been up here and watching the whole thing unfold from his living room window.
âJosh, I know I havenât known you all your life like this Kevin guy apparently has,â Brandon said. âBut Iâm going to let you in on a little secret. Youâre not a very good liar. Your whole face lights up whenever youâre around him. More than it would if he was just a friend. Iâm your friend and you donât look at me like that.â
âThatâs because youâre on my nerves,â Josh said. He knew Brandon was right, thoughâand that was also annoying. âBut okay, so Iâm not a great liar. Is that a bad thing?â
âOf course not. Itâs a really good thing, actually. But Iâm just trying to figure out why itâs such a bad thing that you guys had an innocent little kiss last night? If you wanted it and he wanted it⦠whatâs the problem? Youâre both consenting adults. It didnât look like either of you coerced the other one into doing anything.â
âI donât love that you were paying such close attention, if Iâm being honest,â Josh said, wrinkling his nose. âThis living vicariously thing should probably have some boundaries.â
Brandon smirked. âIt probably should. But here we are. I know what I saw, and Iâm just saying that it didnât look bad from where I was sitting.â
âWell, whatever it was, it canât happen again.â Josh sighed. âI sent him a text a little while ago apologizing and saying that he doesnât need to go with me to the wedding.â Josh could feel his eyes start to sting as he blinked back tears.
