Chapter Nine

Daniel

Refusing to contact her has been the hardest week of my life. I thought the past three months had been brutal, but this self-imposed silence is deafening. She hasn’t bothered to call either. I’ll be seeing her ass tonight one way or another.

When Doc and Sophia show up to Boomer’s house without Sammie on Christmas Eve, I want to snap. She’s my woman, and I need to find her and bring her to me. We should be celebrating the holiday together. “Where is your sister? Or do you not give a shit about her now that you’re married?”

“What the fuck, Daniel?” Sophia challenges.

“Daniel, I don’t know why you care, but she’s at work right now. And I do care about her, but she’s a grown woman who can do what she wants.”

“I need a beer.” I don’t typically lose my cool, but Sammie brings it out of me. A few hours later when Doc and Sophia go home, I head out, looking for my woman.

The theater is still open for another hour when I walk to the box office. “Sorry, bud, but all the movies are already started for the night. Do you need a ticket for tomorrow’s showings?” I look at his name tag and then address him. “Elvin, I’m not here for the movie. I’m here for her.”

He turns his head to where my hand is pointing. As if she hears or feels me, she spins around. A smile crosses her face and she comes my way. “Danny, what brings you here?”

“I came to pick up my girl. Are you ready?” I love the look on her face.

“I’m about to leave in ten minutes.”

“Good, Vixen. Get ready because I want to spend the night worshiping you.” I kiss her softly and then let her go. “Get going, woman,” I growl, patting her ass.

A low grunt of disapproval comes from my left side, and I completely forgot about the assistant manager. I twist my head and look at the fucker like he’s got a serious issue. He’s not her boss and needs to mind his own shit, or I’m going to make it difficult for him to walk. “Excuse me. Do we have a problem?”

“This is a workplace.”

“Then why aren’t you working? Mind your business.”

“You’re the one who has to deal with the Riders. They aren’t going to take kindly to having her played.”

“What makes you think she’s going to get played?” I can’t believe this guy. Does he think that she’s going to leave me for him? I wonder if they dated before or if he’s just interested. He’s not bad looking or anything, but I still don’t like the fucker.

“Because you’re not good enough for her.” Yep. He’s after my woman. I don’t care if they were together before. She’s mine, and he can’t have her.

“You don’t know me, boy, and you better learn really quick that I’m the only one for her. I won’t even tell you again. If you know what’s best for you, you’ll keep it professional.
