It was an early Tuesday evening when Ella approached the front doors of Chatsworth. She arrived at the school a bit early in hopes of sorting out some administration tasks before her class began. As she strolled down the hall, past the main reception desk, Ella heard a voice calling out from behind her.

“Ella! I have someone I would like to introduce to you.” Ella turned to find her supervisor, Mrs. Smith, standing beside a tall, attractive woman with long dark hair.

“Oh, hello! Yes, of course.” Ella walked towards the pair with a friendly smile.

Mrs. Smith made the introductions. “Ella, I would like you to meet Elizabeth Diamond. Elizabeth is the director of the Amira Alder Gallery.”

The statuesque brunette gracefully extended her hand. “Hello, Ella, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Mrs. Smith has told me so much about you.”

Ella was shocked! Due to its exclusivity, she had only been to the gallery a few times and had never attended a private function. But since it was her dream to exhibit there, she was blown away to be meeting the director. She wondered to herself, Why is she visiting a community college? What’s going on?

Ella tried to keep her cool while shaking Elizabeth’s hand firmly. “Um, wow! It’s a real honor to meet you, Mrs. Diamond. I am a big fan of the Amira Alder Gallery.” Ella felt a swarm of butterflies flutter inside her tummy.

Elizabeth chuckled softly. “Oh, it’s Ms. Diamond. I’m, well, I am not married.” Elizabeth squared her shoulders. “How wonderful to hear that you enjoy the Gallery! I understand you’re a teacher here at the college?”

Ella felt breathless. Oh my god, this is like meeting a celebrity! ”Oh, I am so sorry! Um, yes. Yes, I am.” Ella stammered while she cleared her throat. “I teach an intermediate acrylics painting class. It’s pretty cool, you know? My students are great. Really creative!” Ella was so nervous that she felt at a loss for words, and she so badly wanted to make a good impression. But inside, she was screaming. I want to show at your gallery!

Curious, Elizabeth asked, “Did you happen to catch the Carson exhibit last month? Her acrylic collection is so rich and vibrant!”

Ella looked down and tucked a piece of red hair behind her head. “No, I didn’t catch that, actually. I wanted to but, I-I think it was an exclusive show, right?” Gathering up her nerve at the last minute, she quickly added, “I paint in acrylics too.”

Elizabeth nodded. “Is that so? Very interesting. You’re right; it was a private show, but you make a good point. I’m looking to diversify the Gallery and make it a more inclusive space.”

Mrs. Smith interjected. “That’s actually why Ms. Diamond is here.” Turning to face Elizabeth, the college supervisor added, “Elizabeth would like to sit in on a few classes here, and I thought that your class, Ella, might be of interest to her.”

Ella was both flattered and excited. “Oh, really? Wow, that’s great. I would love to welcome you and to introduce you to my students.
