CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Stone

The Next Day

He had breathed easier after the boys had been dropped off from school. They had lunch together and afterward he and his old lady were walking down to the stables when his phone buzzed. It was the clubhouse.

“Stone.”

He had been in their law offices with Ice all morning and had planned to spend time with his old lady this afternoon. He hoped it wasn’t his prez calling him into his office.

It wasn’t his boss.

“Brother, there’s a woman at the main gate wanting to see you. She...uhm... she says she’s your wife.” Sludge, the brother on duty at the gatehouse, sounded uncomfortable.

“What the hell? I’m not married, brother.” Stone stopped walking, frowning in confusion.

“That’s why I didn’t want to let her in until I cleared it with you. Hang on a minute, brother. I’ll ask for more information.” Sludge put the phone down and he could hear voices in the background but didn’t recognise them. Scratching noises came over the line.

Then Sludge was back and his brother cleared his throat a bit nervously before he spoke.

“Fuck, brother, she says her name is Gwen and she insists she’s your wife.” The brother’s voice was full of questions. Questions he couldn’t answer right at that moment.

He was too damned pissed

His ex was at the gate asking for him and telling his brothers she was his wife. It was a fucking lie. He instantly set his brother straight.

“Ex-wife, brother, seems the bitch is still a liar. Don’t know what the fuck she wants with me. I haven’t seen her in years and have no interest in laying eyes on her ever again.” He snapped angrily.

He was about to tell Sludge to tell her to turn her car around and piss off when his old lady tapped his arm. He glared down at her but her sweet face calmed him, soothed his anger.

“It’s better to let her in, hear what she has to say then send her off. You don’t want her chasing after you while we’re having all these problems. I don’t want something to happen to her and you getting blamed for it.” Blake said quietly.

Stone sighed. He knew his ex, knew this wasn’t going to be as easy as his old lady thought it would be.

Gwen was a spoilt bitch who liked getting her own way. When they last spoke, which was before he had gone Nomad, she had mistakenly assumed he still loved her. At the time he hadn’t given a rat’s ass about her or her assumptions and hadn’t corrected her.

Now it seems he should have.

The slutty bitch couldn’t have been more wrong.

His love had died the moment he walked in on her fucking another man. He had been hurt, disillusioned and humiliated. The experience had changed him into the man he had become. A man who used women when the need arose but never allowed another to get close.

A man with a heart of stone.

At first putting distance between him and his ex had been one of the main reasons why he had gone on the road as a Nomad.
