CHAPTER 9
The door from the dungeon creaked open slowly, as Sabine entered her bedroom. She thought it best to hide out in her secret room to process everything that’d happened. Moving quickly across the room, she opened the closet door. Sabine remembered to close it behind her this time. She opened the door to her sanctuary and stepped inside, closing it behind her.
To her horror, Brendon sat on the big, comfy chair next to the bay window… uninvited. He looked directly at her, and she froze. Shit! Does he see me?
Standing slowly, he walked cautiously toward her. He opened the door and looked into the closet before stepping back into the room.
“Alright. What kind of fuckery is this?”
Sabine breathed a sigh of relief. She knew the spell worked, but for a split second, it was easy to forget and become terrified.
“If you’re fucking with me, Sabine, you won’t like the consequences. Come out now, and I’ll go easy on you.”
He walked over to the easel where the nearly finished painting for Sam sat. Brendon raised his hand and placed it on the top, digging his nails in. “I’ll destroy this if you don’t show yourself. Looks like you’ve put a lot of work into it.”
Go ahead, asshole. I’ll just paint another one. If you think that will get me to reveal myself, you’re sorely mistaken.
“So be it.” Ripping at the painting, he tore it to shreds. He hurried to the door and peered around the room once more before leaving.
She sat down on the ledge of the bay window and looked out at the town of Willow Creek, wondering what her family was up to while she dodged a bloodthirsty vampire.
Sabine contemplated her future in regards to what she had learned about Remy. Even if she could get his strength built up, what good would it do? He couldn’t overpower Bastian, and he’d never make it out alive on his own, let alone with her. Where did that leave him really?
At best, she could hope for a secret rendezvous with him in the dungeon now and then, but what would she be dealing with the rest of the time? Psycho Brendon or perhaps some other vamp who maybe would be worse. There was no way she was falling for another vampire, so she knew love was out of the picture. Remy had stolen her heart, and it would never belong to another.
She remembered the time before she’d fallen for Remy. Back then, she envisioned her future at Willow Creek Manor much like it currently was. She always knew it would hurt to be fed on and that she would be a prisoner more or less, with no freedom to come and go as she pleased.
That was until Remy came along, but then she just assumed it would be him being her captor. Never in her wildest dreams did she ever think they would fall so deeply in love with one another.
It was almost a crueler fate to have loved and have it ripped away, only to end up in the same state she found herself presently.
