Throughout the year, Brookshire volunteers their sports teams to host various different days for community service. Track finished up collecting toys for underprivileged kids last week, so now football is hosting a food drive out on the field.

As I pack up a container of food, making sure the family is getting two of each product, it finally feels like I’m doing something meaningful.

While this is another thing added to my plate, I find that the sense of fulfillment I gain makes the work worth it. Doing something important while helping others is all I’ve ever wanted to do. It’s one of the reasons why I want to be a doctor so much.

“Is this it, man?” one of my teammates asks, gesturing to the assembled baskets. “I can make some more if you want to head to the pickup line.”

“That’d be great. The sheet over there has what’s all in them. Make about seven more?”

He nods and quickly gets to work as I take the couple of baskets I’ve made and bring them to the pickup line at the center of the field. It was weird coming in this morning to set it up, considering what happened in this very spot last night.

I blush at the memory. Sure, the sex was hot, and my ass is still sore from what we did, but it’s more than that. I bring my free hand to my chest, feeling Silas’ ring under my shirt, making my heart stutter as a smile crosses my lips. We’re together now, and I’d never thought I’d want something as much as I want that.

Even though we can’t be like everyone else and hold hands in public or go to the drive-in for some cheesy horror movie, it doesn’t take away from how special it feels. Although, I can’t deny how nice it would be to be able to publicly claim him.

Maybe one day.

Yeah, that hot-as-hell bad boy is mine. I’m fucking proud of it.

I’ll settle for leaving more hickeys on his neck for now. He swears he hates them but he secretly loves it.

“Need any help with those?”

I’m startled out of my daydream of sucking marks onto my boyfriend’s neck by Landon. I feel my cheeks heat up in embarrassment as I clear my throat. “Um, yeah. That’d be nice.”

Landon awkwardly takes some of the baskets from me, and we start heading toward the pickup table. We’ve been distant since our mini-fight after the championship game. It’s not like we’ve been ignoring each other—we still see each other every day—but things just haven’t been the same.

I know it’s all my fault. Landon was just trying to be a good friend and I snapped. It’s not his problem that I’ve kept things from him. I’ve wanted to say something since it happened, but I haven’t been able to work up the courage. I know he would understand—we’ve been friends forever—but I’m still scared it’ll change things between us.

I need to tell him about Silas. I want him to know how head over heels I am for this guy.
