“This isn't usually how we get here,” he joked.

The joke didn't help to ease April's fear, so he tried to be logical. “I mean to say that a plane engine has never ever happened, never in any of our lifetime. With so little time to react, we are really lucky to be safe away from the plane with our parachute.”

April looked too frightened to reply so he decided to stay quiet for the rest of the descent. As they got closer to the ground, Hanson tried to navigate as much as possible to avoid hitting any obstacles. That wouldn't be the case though. As they got closer to the ground, they missed the flat open ground by a few yards and their parachute got stuck on a tree. It pulled them down, making both of them scream as they were sent to the ground.

The fall wasn't lengthy, but it was unceremonious. Hanson landed with his face on the ground, April, right with him. He lifted his head to see if his nose was broken, but he was fine. He unhooked himself and finally tried to get his breathing under control.

“Well, that was—”

He was interrupted by April cries. He turned to her and tried to help her stand, but her leg was bleeding.

“I got caught on a branch,” she explained, between sobs.

“Hey, it's okay,” the doctor consoled her. He tore off one of his sleeves and wrapped it around the cut. “It isn't too deep, but it's going to hurt a bit.” She let out one last scream as he tightened the sleeve.

He continued to assure her that she would be okay throughout this process. He lifted her onto his back and started to walk.

“Where are we going?” she asked weakly.

“We're going to find help. They probably saw us land, so they'll come for us soon. We just need to be in an open area.

“Who's ‘they’?”

As she asked that, the sounds of vehicles could be heard in the distance.

“That's them.”
