We’re all stuck in this prison of appropriate behaviour. I went to see a student play recently – nineteen-,twenty-year-old students on the stage and I was sat next to two fifty-year-old women. One of them was the mother of one of the kids in the play and the other one said to her, ‘Gosh, your Timothy has turned out to be quite a stud, hasn’t he?’ She said it in quite a light, innocent way but I sensed what she was saying there was, ‘I’d like to fuck your son.’ And I thought, What kind of society is this, where she can’t just say that?
