Chapter 16 – Busy

Psystar’s Viewpoint

Lance and I joined the other heroes at the jail’s check-in area for new arrivals, or at least the non-super kind. It was night out, but there were so many lights on the prison walls and poles that the area was well lit.

Rael looked good in his tight costume. He was in his human form. As he turned and smiled at me, his eyes shined as the light reflected off his cat-like pupils. I saw through his eyes as he noted the blood on the side of my costume.

Rayna turned as we got closer and she heard Lance’s heavy footsteps. She had both of her furry little dragons on her shoulders. They looked cute as they held her ears with their tiny hands. She was extremely worried about Razorwing.

I squeezed Rael’s forearm and then stepped by Rayna and petted Duff along his this mohawk. The tiny B had been displaced from his usual position at the left side of the woman’s head.

Rayna said, “We captured the men from the chop shop in their backup location, but the supervillains weren’t there. Would you scan them and find out where Razorwing is being held?”

I nodded. The guards had the men sitting on the ground, so I reached out and grabbed the first of several dozen mindviews in my vision, brought it close, and pulled myself inside.

As usual, I was in a room with a few doors. The man stood ahead of me, staring at me. Unlike the many supers whose mind I had entered, his will was not strong enough for him to attack me, much less move. I wondered what controlled a person’s ability to do that. If I could somehow cut off their ability to show up in their mind, I would not have as many mental fights.

One was closed … that of the subconscious. I generally avoided that one, as I had torn one off in a teenage girl’s mind, and thought that it might have some strange side effects on her.

The emotion chamber was off to the left. That had little value for my current task, unless I wanted to cause the man immense fear or something.

The important door was to the right … the memory chamber. It was the largest, and as I entered that room, thousands of rows and columns of videos appeared. Sadly, I had no means of instantly pulling whatever information I desired from his memories, so I was forced to scan over the memories in the hope of spotting something that stood out.

I reached out and pulled some memories forward to me with the golden tentacles projecting from the aura around me. I sped through them, mostly memories of the chop shop, and saw Nightmonger and his supervillains in the corner of the building. Sadly, the large villain always had a shadowy aura about him, making it impossible to see details that would allow me to identify him.

A new villain worked with a strange, humanoid frog alien on a massive cannon.
