Chapter 17

Jewels slipped out of her bedroom. Unlike the day before, she wasn't angry, and she wasn't about to confront Owen. Instead, she was hoping to avoid him. After last night's revelation, they had gone their separate ways when Owen claimed he needed some time alone, and she couldn't blame him. She thought her father was fucked up, but now she knew that Owen's blew hers out of the water.

At least her father had the decency to stay away and forget she existed. Owen's sent money, but kept him and his mother a dirty little secret, only confessing while on his death bed. Was it because he felt guilty about what he did, or was there some other hidden motive? She had been too terrified to ask, which was completely unlike her. Normally, just the hint of a story had her blood sizzling to dig up dirt, but since that wasn't the case, she needed time to regroup, to decide how she wanted to move forward.

She crept down the stairs, careful not to make a sound. It was a good thing this place was solid; the floors and stairs didn't creak to give away her location. In only a pair of underwear and a tank top, she planned to go for an early morning swim to help clear her mind. Clutching the towel tightly to her chest, she wished she had brought a bathing suit. Not that what she was wearing was any less revealing. Actually, her bathing suit at home showed a hell of a lot more cleavage. The only difference being that what she had on now was sheer and didn't hide a thing. She would need to make sure she was out of the pool and dressed before Owen found her.

The second she walked through the glass door, she realized her mistake. She should have checked that Owen was still in his room, should have made sure his sexy ass was in bed before slipping downstairs. Instead, she saw his muscular frame rhythmically cutting through the water, instantly mesmerizing her. So much so that, minutes later, when he stopped swimming his laps, she was still rooted in the same spot. Her mouth hung open as she watched him use his strong arms to lift himself out of the pool, because of course he wouldn't use the steps like a normal damn person. Fuck me!

No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop watching the trail the water droplets took; down his chiseled chest, over the dips and valleys of his abs, and onto the soaked boxer briefs that left very little to the imagination. She wasn't the only one who didn't come prepared for water activities it would seem.

Her body refused to move as he prowled toward her. That was the only way she could describe those long, confident strides, the determination on his face. But it wasn't the prowling that caught her attention. It was the large erection he was sporting. And it looked to have only one objective: to claim her.
